Focus on Rojava

From Class War

The devastating effects of the lesser evil and anti-imperialism in anarchist circles (II)

Why a focus on Rojava in 2024? Both because of random discussions, but also because the most widespread form of military-revolutionary mythology about Rojava has reappeared as an ideological support for an “anarchist” commitment to the war in Ukraine, going as far as to valorize the career paths of people who have gone from one war to another. On this occasion, a military commitment in Rojava is “naturally” presented as an authoritative justification for joining the Ukrainian troops “in any case”, the case being understood as a leftist or “anarchist” cause.

The Goldman House is in danger of demolition

From My Central Jersey

Original title: The Goldman House, a piece of utopian history in Piscataway, is in danger of demolition

Driving past 143 School St. in Piscataway, it’s easy to ignore the dilapidated, oddly-shaped house on a corner, surrounded by otherwise nondescript neighborhood homes.

Announcing Warlike, Howling, Pure

From Contagion Press

by Areïon

Given the failure and inadequacy of secular attempts to bring about revolution, Warlike, Howling, Pure offers an insurrectionary and devotional approach to anarchy that expands the uprising into spiritual and religious dimensions. This book of four essays delves into the animism of revolution, suggesting its manifestation through relationship with the numinous – a divine intervention, rather than a product of crass historical determinism.

A late recognition of Larry that feels fresh, six months on...

From Athens Indymedia

This is being written around six months after the loss of our friend and comrade Larry. It is not easy to write, and whatever may appear as a finished text, will likely not satisfy the broader desire to take a moment to remember our lost comrade Larry. More than anything, I believe all of us who knew him would just rather he be here. With that said, the following is intended to take a moment to appreciate and remember our beloved lost comrade, and allow his beautiful inspiration and notorious integrity to inspire us to keep pushing forward (despite the unprecedented obstacles both locally and around the world) with his revolutionary spirit in mind.

Call for International Week of Solidarity with Anarchist Prisoners 2024

Call for International Week of Solidarity with Anarchist Prisoners 2024

From Till all are free, International Week of Solidarity with Anarchist Prisoners

Original title: Call for International Week of Solidarity with Anarchist Prisoners 2024 // 23 – 30 August

Military drones buzz among the stars and clouds. A soldier thousands of kilometers away searches for targets to kill, emotions distant from the lives they are taking. A growing numbness to the present brutality and states propaganda that summons itself across our screens. The water and the land are objects to be further preyed upon. Like the cavernous pit of the coal mine we are being emptied and hollowed out in order to sustain capital’s culture of emptiness. Empathy, care and love which keeps our communities together are under attack for an individualized life under capitalism where everyone looks out for themselves.

Barrett Brown - Hacktivist, Narcissist, Anonymous

Barrett Brown - Hacktivist, Narcissist, Anonymous

From Anarchy Tube

How does someone introduce Barrett Brown? That's a really tough one because the personal, professional, and political stories play off each other in numerous ways. I would have to say that first of all, Barrett Brown is one of too few to survive a very intense era of anti-authoritarian activism and state repression. In addition, Brown is a survivor of the innumerable disappointments that I feel have had a big impact on the way things are now. He is someone who has comprehended the contemporary moment and has participated in its unfolding with the skills at his disposal and he is someone who has paid a big price for taking those risks. Naturally, his recently released book, "My Glorious Defeats: Hacktivist, Narcissist, Anonymous: A Memoir of Barrett Brown" is an excellent insight into what I just said and though I'm only on Chapter 5, it has been an enjoyable read.

Black Flag: Anarchist Review Summer 2024 issue now out

Black Flag: Anarchist Review Summer 2024 issue now out

The new issue of Black Flag: Anarchist Review is now available:

https://www.blackflag.org.uk

The main focus of this issue is Emma Goldman. While much, rightly, has been written about this stalwart of the movement for fifty years, it has all too often been focused on her life or her feminism. While this is understandable – her life was eventful (to say the least) and her feminism is important – this has led to a downplaying of her communist-anarchism. Here we seek to address this by means of a debunking of a deeply dishonest Leninist account of her life. This shows two things.
