How does a hybrid quantum solver handle a workforce scheduling problem? Check out this live demo from #Qubits24 by D-Wave Senior Technical Advisor, Catherine G. Potts, Ph.D. Juggling summer vacation scheduling needs of employees can be a headache. Inspired by a popular ice cream factory, we showed how our professional services team took real-world specifications and built an optimization engine with lightweight user interface for an application. The result is designed to keep everybody happy, even during the peak season when demands for both time off and ice cream are high. https://lnkd.in/g-Jckgme #QuantumComputing #HybridSolver

We can hardly believe it’s already been one month since our annual #Qubits24 conference. We asked Murray Thom, D-Wave's VP of quantum technology evangelism and emcee of the event, to reflect on what he felt were the highlights biggest takeaways. This year’s conference spanned commercial quantum computing adoption through to the latest product and scientific breakthroughs that are helping drive performance improvements for customers. We demonstrated “Success Powered by Quantum” by spotlighting stories from customers like Los Alamos National Laboratory and Pattison Food Group, who achieved research advancements and optimization ROI through their use of our annealing quantum technology. With over 30 sessions across the two days, we shared a variety of examples across industries and use cases where quantum technology is having an impact today. Check out the recap video here: https://lnkd.in/gRT3fhqB #QuantumComputing

Different hybrid-quantum solvers are suited for different kinds of computational problems. As we continue to expand our offering of hybrid quantum solutions with the addition of our new nonlinear-program hybrid solver, we are bringing even more performance and value to our customers. To provide a comprehensive overview of D-Wave’s hybrid quantum solvers, we enlisted our technical advisor Ken Robbins, Ph.D. to share insights on how to assess a hybrid quantum use case. He breaks down the key differences between linear and nonlinear solvers and offer s examples of effective problem formulation for employee scheduling. Wojciech Fedorko, Deputy Department Head of Scientific Computing at TRIUMF, Canada’s particle accelerator center, spoke at #Qubits24 about the efforts to advance the field of computational physics through quantum approaches. Building off Nobel Prize-winning research work on experiments with the Large Hadron Collider, Wojtek’s presentation shows how quantum-assisted generative AI can be used meet the growing computational demands for calorimetric simulations. A model is constructed by combining D-Wave’s annealing quantum computer with a deep learning architecture, increasing the timing performance with respect to first principles simulations and deep learning models alone, while maintaining current state-of-the-art data quality. “We are trying to exploit creatively the strengths of the quantum annealer by basically using it as a sampler in a bigger, deep learning architecture. It seems that we can attack already the problems of relevant scale for solving this problem.” - Wojtek Fedorko, TRIUMF Watch the replay: https://lnkd.in/gmuPZRgT #QuantumComputing #DeepLearning #GenAI
