We are excited to launch the ASAP CRN Cloud, a data-sharing tool designed to advance #ParkinsonsDisease research by allowing researchers to share, access, and work directly with other experts to distill discoveries. We developed this tool in collaboration with our implementation partner, The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research and our technical partners at Verily, DNAstack, and DataTecnica LLC. Currently featuring a unique set of sequencing data from over 150 donors, the CRN Cloud dataset offers the potential for unprecedented insights into #neurodegeneration. #SickKids Senior Scientist, Dr. Adam Shlien secures $6 million in funding through @Genome Canada’s Genomic Applications Partnership Program (GAPP) to advance his ground-breaking cancer diagnostic platform toward clinical implementation.  Shlien, who holds a Garron Family Chair in Childhood Cancer Research, and his team developed the novel machine-learning algorithm at SickKids to rapidly classify more than 90 per cent of paediatric sarcomas – a cancer that can occur anywhere in the body and is one of the most difficult to diagnose. Though rare in adults, sarcomas make up approximately 20 per cent of solid cancers in children. With this funding, the tool will move into clinical labs and expand beyond paediatric care. “Our technology is the first comprehensive approach for the diagnosis of sarcoma patients of any age,” Shlien says. Autism Speaks’ MSSNG database, the world’s largest autism whole-genome dataset, recently expanded to include an additional 2,489 fully sequenced genomes in the project’s cloud-based dataset. We are pleased to announce a groundbreaking new initiative – In collaboration with DNAstack and Verily, Target ALS has launched a first-of-its-kind data portal that will provide no-strings-attached access to comprehensive datasets and analysis tools to fuel the discovery of treatments and biomarkers for ALS. Through the portal, researchers worldwide can access well-characterized data collections from Target ALS’ Scientific Core Facilities, including postmortem tissue, longitudinal biofluids, and stem cells. Today, we’re excited to announce a new ISO standard, Requirements for interoperable systems for genomic surveillance. Genomic surveillance combined with rapid realtime data sharing is the most important tool we have for detecting and stopping the spread of infectious diseases, like COVID. Throughout the COVID pandemic, we had the privilege of working together with our provincial and federal government to implement a solution for tracking and sharing information on variants of concern. It became clear that the centralized model of data sharing is fraught with issues — it makes data linkage difficult and causes significant time delays, misaligned incentives, and data hoarding. Centralization just doesn’t work at national or planet scale. This document describes design principles and the service and standards requirements to enable an interoperable system for federated genomic surveillance. It represents a vision, shared by our partners, for the future of pandemic prevention. 🧠 GA4GH and the International Neuroinformatics Coordinating Facility (INCF)-org welcome interested organisations worldwide to join a new Neuroscience Community. https://bit.ly/3N6HxQT These two leading standards bodies aim to help power a global data network that will speed up answers in autism, Parkinson’s, addiction, and more. In the GA4GH & INCF Neuroscience Community, international partners meet to lay the groundwork for connecting neuroscience and genomic data. The group will develop the standards, collaborations, and systems needed to enable data visiting across a global network. The GA4GH & INCF Neuroscience Community aims to expand neuroscience and genomic data networking around the world — ramping up what many members are already doing. In Ontario, Canada, for example, Ontario Brain Institute have a Brain-CODE platform with neurological data from more than 20,000 people. And DNAstack developed a Neuroscience AI network that researcher Azadeh Kushki of Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital used to make an important discovery: neurodivergent kids might be prescribed medication differently based on their ethnicity and family income. Advances in DNA and RNA sequencers are making it possible to understand disease with unprecedented precision. But before it can inform research and clinical care, sequencing data (which can be hundreds of gigabytes per sample) first need to be processed using computationally intensive software pipelines. Today DNAstack is proud to launch Workflows, a marketplace for omics data analysis pipelines. Workflows makes it easier and safer for scientists to discover and run high-quality pipelines on data generated by popular sequencing instruments, including PacBio, Illumina, and Oxford Nanopore. Workflows integrates with Workbench, our workflow execution manager, working together to unify the experience of performing analyses across multiple sequencing instruments and cloud computing platforms. Just like Android has unified the end-user experience across different smartphone devices, our vision with Workflows + Workbench is to unify the experience of doing omics data analysis across different sequencing platforms and cloud computing environments.
