At Motion Composites, we are proud to have ambassadors who are passionate about everything they do, while at the same time being committed community leaders. Our friend and ambassador, Joey Desjardins, is no exception. 👌 Joey Desjardins is a wonderful dad (you might have spotted one of his adorable daughters in some of our product photoshoots 😉), a fierce para-cycling athlete, an adventure seeker, passionate about traveling, and a great community member. On June 4th, to welcome the sunny weather with open arms, Joey joined the local school his daughters attend for a super fun Bike Drill Session. We could not resist learning more about it. Did you know that on average a wheelchair user completes 2,000 to 4,000 propulsions a day with their handrims? That’s a lot and it can take a toll in your body! 😥 Upper extremity, repetitive strain injuries, are common for manual wheelchair users; upwards of 70-100 % of the users have experienced at least one sort of injury throughout their life. Having an ultralightweight wheelchair can help with this issue, but did you know that handrims can assist as well? Make sure to check to consider the following aspects before choosing the right handrim for your needs: ✔ Materials: Make sure to check the materials available for the handrims, to know what benefits they can provide you. ✔ Diameter: This will impact the grasp that you have. Users with smaller hands and users with a limited hand function can benefit from a larger diameter. ✔ Shape: This determines the position of the hands of the wheelchair user on contact with the handrim. ✔ Spacing: Some handrims allow variation in the spacing from the wheel/tire. This can assist with hand positioning to ensure a proper grip is secured for maximum contact. Each handrim is unique and it should be chosen based on your own needs. Make sure to read our blog to learn more about handrims and choosing the right one for you. 😉 Learn more 👇 https://ow.ly/kx2650Su68J
