A few weeks ago, we attended a seminar on Smart Cities held by Dutch city architect and urban planner Tom van Arman. Smart city projects are growing worldwide, trying to find unprecedented solutions to modern problems. Consider the self-driving trains of London's DLR, Amsterdam's self-driving boats for waste disposal, Amazon's drone package deliveries, and the use of geofencing in farms to enhance cattle welfare. These are just a few examples of how our cities are already embracing cutting-edge technologies, making them smarter than we might realize. These innovations are about keeping up with population growth and improving our quality of life. However, as cities become smarter, they become more vulnerable and subject to privacy scrutiny. The vast amounts of data they collect through sensors and other IoT devices (the Internet of Everything) remain primarily under-utilized. At the same time, IoT is the most vulnerable element in the cybersecurity chain. Here's our take on this vast and complex subject. #smartcity #IoT #IoE #cybersecurity #opendata #negativepid https://lnkd.in/e8W2ZdQj

Our last article barely scratched the surface of the complex world of firewalls. Today, we take a deep dive into Next-Generation Firewalls (NGFWs), exploring their capabilities and the drawbacks of all those advanced features. Traffic decryption is at the base of most NGFWs' wonders but comes with challenges. Understanding these features' benefits and potential disadvantages is key to deciding whether an NGFW or a traditional firewall suits your needs and environment. #firewalls #firewallSecurity #NGFW #nextGenerationFirewalls #negativePID https://lnkd.in/e6hDCt3h

Firewalls are our first line of defense against external threats. Every computer comes with one, and we barely need to touch it: it just does its job in the background. However, when it comes to a business, the choice of a firewall is critical. If you don't know where to start, here is a quick guide on the very basics. In this article we try to answer different questions: how do firewalls work? What's the difference between a stateless and a stateful firewall? What are next-generation firewalls? And what points should you consider when choosing a firewall for business purposes? Next week, we'll dig into the nitty-gritty of Next-Generation Firewalls to understand what they do, how, and if they're really for you. #firewalls #NGFs #howToChooseAFirewall #statelessFirewalls #statefulFirewalls #next-generationFirewalls #negativePID https://lnkd.in/e83kE3wX

How do web app developers make sure that their apps are secure? In the traditional web app development life-cycle, security is left last, often with a remediation-only mindset. Today, that's no longer enough. Session hijacking techniques are evolving, finding flaws to be exploited at different levels. So here's the first of three articles on the best security practices for preventing session hijacking when developing a web app. #appdevelopment #webapps #appsecurity #sessionhijacking #negativepid https://lnkd.in/dYqurxQE

VPNs are becoming more accessible and known to protect your privacy and safety online. However, many still have reservations about daily use due to downsides (especially speed). So what are VPNs and how do they protect your Internet traffic? How do they work, and why do we need them if almost all modern websites are protected by SSL/TLS encryption? What's the difference between a VPN and a proxy? To explain all that, we have captured some traffic with and without a VPN. It's all in here! #VPN #proxyServer #SSLTLS #SSLstripping #safeBrowsing #privacy #negativePID https://lnkd.in/eyWXCFGU

Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) makes up for 70% of the effort in pen-testing (Reconnaissance phase). And while you can gather intelligence with open-source tools, this is not what OSINT is about. In this case, open-source refers to the gathered intelligence. So here's what OSINT is, how it works, and how it fits into business processes and operations. #OSINT #opensourceintelligence #intelligence #processes #gatheringintel https://lnkd.in/eGY3PAtD
