It is said that if you leave a doughnut in the sun for too long, it will become glazed and confused. We couldn’t let National Doughnut Day go by without saluting these deliciously doughy desserts. Our love of these tasty treats has grown yearly, with over 10 billion baked annually in the U.S. and 43 million served monthly in Canada. So why are they called “doughnuts,” you ask? Because it was typical for the middle of the fried balls of dough not to be fully cooked, bakers stuffed hazelnuts or walnuts into them to avoid an uncooked middle. The next step was to remove the middle altogether, which led to our modern hole-in-the-middle donuts.

Aside from all the learning, Scholars is FUN! It’s a place where students can make new friends, engage in interactive learning games, discover new interests, and study at their own pace in a relaxed and welcoming environment. Happy Victoria Day! Since 1845, this holiday has been held in Canada to celebrate Queen Victoria's birth and honour her role as the "Mother of Confederation." Victoria chose Ottawa as Canada's capital and acted as a unifying influence for Canadian provinces in the mid-nineteenth century.
