Founded in 2016, Terrapin Geothermics Inc. (Terrapin) develops emission-free energy projects from heat to help clients decarbonize their operations and thrive in a net-zero world. An end-to-end project development firm, Terrapin specializes in generating clean, baseload electricity and heat from industrial waste heat and geothermal resources. Terrapin's waste heat recovery project development model focuses on maximizing value for the industrial client. This means that Terrapin identifies the most economical use of the waste heat resource; procures the best-in-class heat to power technology; manages the project from origination to completion; and finances the entire project using third-party capital. Terrapin Geothermics got the chance to visit Cyrq Energy Soda Lake geothermal power plant with two Ormat Technologies, Inc. ORCs. I’m amazed at how small the surface footprint is compared to a natural gas plant. I can’t wait until we see #geothermal power plants in #Canada.

Some thoughts from our VP of Operations on the Alberta government moratorium on renewable electricity project approvals #geothermal #AlbertaNo1 #heattopower
This week has been an interesting one for geothermal energy in Alberta. With the Minister of Environment and Protected Areas Rebecca Schulz in Germany supporting Alberta-founded Eavor, there has been a focus on how it is incongruous that geothermal energy should be promoted abroad and paused in Alberta. A few thoughts from a geothermal developer on additional reasons why the moratorium on renewable projects makes little sense for geothermal energy: 1. Alberta geothermal projects already have to pay a manner of reclamation bonding for the drilling of wells through the Alberta Energy Regulator. 2. Alberta geothermal projects have the smallest land footprint of any renewable electricity development 3. Alberta geothermal projects have no different visual impact from your standard oil or gas project 4. Geothermal energy is firm power, not requiring additional storage capacity or initiating concerns over grid stability/reliability At Terrapin and Alberta No. 1 we look forward to the end of the moratorium and moving forward with a rational energy mix in Alberta #geothermal #renewableenergy #moratorium #AlbertaNo1 Terrapin Geothermics Geothermal Canada
