  • Evolving the Acceptable Ads Criteria

    After months of conducting and collecting research and user feedback, me and the team put all of that into the newly evolved Acceptable Ads Criteria - the backbone of Adblock Plus. We had a few goals when we started this project:

    - Increased transparency around Acceptable Ads; the actual criteria, monetization and processes
    - Easily understandable criteria
    - Laying the foundation for the Acceptable Ads Committee - who will take over the responsibility of defining the Acceptable…

    After months of conducting and collecting research and user feedback, me and the team put all of that into the newly evolved Acceptable Ads Criteria - the backbone of Adblock Plus. We had a few goals when we started this project:

    - Increased transparency around Acceptable Ads; the actual criteria, monetization and processes
    - Easily understandable criteria
    - Laying the foundation for the Acceptable Ads Committee - who will take over the responsibility of defining the Acceptable Ads standard in Q4 2016

    I am happy that we have met all of those goals and more. The evolved criteria have the support of our users and the publishers, which is exactly what we want to accomplish here at Eyeo.

  • Implementation of Project Proposal process

    –Heute

    When growing the company from six to 42 people in under 2,5 years, it brings certain challenges to the team. With the increase of employees, more and more ideas that were generated by the Business & Growth team were causing a waste of time to both the Business and Development team.

    When growing the company from six to 42 people in under 2,5 years, it brings certain challenges to the team. With the increase of employees, more and more ideas that were generated by the Business & Growth team were causing a waste of time to both the Business and Development team.

    The Project Proposal process tackled many of the issues such as endless discussions, incomplete project descriptions, lack of decision-making. By enabling the Business Team to being able to write fully broken-down and detailed Project Proposals, we have been able to significantly reduce the time spent on the conceptualization phase of projects.

  • Implementation of Objectives & Key Results (OKRs)

    –Heute

    As a rapidly growing startup, it became apparent that we had to revise our structure to make it scalable and ensure that everyone is focusing on the right projects. After researching a few different alternatives, we found that Google's OKRs would be a great match: it fits our corporate culture, it is scalable, and ensures that the company goals are translated into tangible projects for every individual. Naturally, we customized the OKRs to fit our exact needs.

  • Improving User Experience in China

    After persistent quality issues for our Chinese userbase, I've initiated, coordinated and managed the project to create a brandnew blockinglist: from recruiting local Chinese contributors to quality assurance of the filters.

  • New Adblock Plus for Chrome UI

    Assisted in the development and design of the Adblock Plus for Chrome UI, with integrated adcounting functionality to drive social activity. The result was overwhelming, users loved the updated UI.

  • Established Eyeo's Core Values

    Established the Core Values of Eyeo GmbH. All employees were required to sign it, and all new employees get the Core Values as part of their introduction package. It is a company-wide supported project, which is aimed to drive decision-making in the favor of the long-term.

    In October 2015 we announced that Adblock Plus will relinquish control of defining the Acceptable Ads standard. We are just one stakeholder of the web, and we believe that the definition of what constitutes an Acceptable Ad should be made my a large set of different stakeholders.

    Therefore, I am working hard on getting this done. What we have done so far (update April 2016):
    - Organized two Camp David events where we had roundtable discussions about how we can best facilitate the different stakeholders of the web when setting up this committee.
    - Created the Acceptable Ads bylaws on the input from ~30 industry stakeholders
    - Presented these bylaws to >40 stakeholders, and collected more feedback
    - Announced and presented the Committee at >20 events

    The Acceptable Ads Committee was successfully launched on March 15th, 2017, with over 30 companies joining the initiative, with some of the industry's biggest names.
