Picking up from my last post, if we are wasting all that time and money manually gathering insights, why isn’t there any solution? Well, when has anyone asked a PM or EM or PM / Engg Director or VPs - how much time did it take to come up with those insights? Never. 🤷‍♂️ The focus is usually on the insights themselves, not the effort required to obtain them. As a result, the manual processes and inefficiencies remain hidden, and the cycle continues. The truth seeking design pattern to delight customers and smart people- For engineers - There is always the root cause and then there is narrative. Root cause is one and narratives are many. As an example, windows crashed so its buggy. The real root cause could be a bug in a third party device driver causing blue screen. Chasing narrative will waste time and disappoint everyone including customers. For applied scientists -not being able to know why a neural net is fitting the data is the biggest problems in AI. Truth is casuality. Narratives are logical sounding temporal correlations. For leaders - The same pattern applies here. Leaders who can find the truth about their customers and people don’t need to depend on perception. Perceptions create narratives that are not the truth. You end up chasing many narratives. It also leads to disappointing customer and people. For engineers to find the root cause they need to know the code. For leaders, they either need to be in depth(come from the ground) or pursue truth seeking mechanisms. Finding truth in engineering and leadership leads to excellence, meritocracy and a culture that delights people and customers.

Framing complexifiers vs. simplifiers is a great way to look at senior leaders as people who can create clarity in the chaos. This post is triggered by a post in Facebook about someone complaining about their salary vs the owner's riches. Here are a few points to always remember. Particularly for the younger readers 1. The only purpose of a business is to increase shareholder value. This is the classic, straight to gut definition. Possibly unpleasant and certainly devoid of virtue signalling. Everything else is a byproduct 2. Optimization is essential to business. Otherwise it goes bust. 3. Money is in most cases a direct correlation to the perceived value you bring to business. There will be statistical variance on this. That is, some of your peers will be better or worse paid, or better or worse placed for similar work across industry. So the shareholders, who really like their money, are paying ceo more because they perceive him to bring better value. And that value is sometimes not visible or understood. For example, a powerful network. 4. Value creation (yours) is a continous process. It is neither easy, nor pretty. Burning the midnight oil never really ceases. 5. Petulance and jealousy is a terrible trait. Learn from success of others, celebrate and improve yourself. Don't whine. It is annoying. 6. If you do not feel valued, have an honest conversation, skill up and chart your path. Cribbing but not doing anything to change will solve nothing

Meta seems to be struggling to keep Travel Bloggers safe from hackers. There are many who have lost their Instagram accounts or facebook pages hacked by hackers who demand money and at times just vanish. Meta support is pretty bad in such cases and it seems it's hard/impossible for them to help. Imagine you have a facebook account and a page associated with that account. Account is safe but page is hacked. How? And then Facebook doesn't respond to emails/queries. After loosing my pages with good followership (to hackers in December'23), Alok Sharma shared another similar instance (Looks like it's a trend - https://lnkd.in/g_r9MS4Z and Facebook is struggling to resolve these cases. I haven't heard anything from Facebook and I find even friends in the company helpless to do anything. ) and it's super sad to see this. It takes a lot of efforts to build a community. Losing it like this is very unfortunate at multiple levels. Related note - If you are passionate about #AppSecurity , we have some openings at #Sumologic. Contract testing isn't the same as schema validation tests. This blog post by 🚀 Matt Fellows does a great job of explaining the difference between the two, as well as their relative benefits and drawbacks. Both techniques have their place, but it's important to understand the difference between the two, so you can make an informed decision. Reposting the tl;dr from the article itself here: "Schema-based contract tests sacrifice a level of guarantees in favour of a simpler developer experience. Code-based contract tests provide a stronger set of guarantees but comes with the extra cost of maintaining tests."
