Fire Detection Using Image Processing
XIV Control Instrumentation System Conference (CISCON-2017), Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal
The paper gives an insight to fire detection algorithms using image processing. Apart from numerous optimized techniques, a simplified approach may be sufficient for day-to-day surveillance. This mainly aims at minimizing the time taken for identification of an outbreak of fire and its management.

Analyzing the Effect of Metals on the Dynamic Performance of RF MEMS Switch
IEEE-2014 International Conference on Electronics and Communication Systems

RF MEMS (Radiofrequency Microelectromechanical systems) is the area of MEMS which deals with study and development of RF components for communication applications. In telecommunication domain, one of the critical parameter is bandwidth that can be controlled by device parameters namely threshold voltage and resonant frequency. Although these parameters have marked relevance for its given functions in telecom devices, it comes with greater challenges related to production and costing of these devices. Therefore to effectively reduce the system costs without affecting the functioning of the device, size miniaturization plays a pivotal role. Importantly this technique can be implemented using simple structure and continuous development in electromechanical systems that yet remain elusive. This study proposes the Simple RF MEMS Switch with two different Models comprising of Aluminum and Gold metals to obtain higher dynamic stiffness and Low threshold voltage with best Frequency Response. The Results Obtained showed that Model 1 has best Inherent frequencies with desired low threshold voltage up to 2.02 V

Characterization of silanization and antibody immobilization on spin-on glass (SOG) surface
Applied Surface Science
Most embedded optical waveguide biosensors require low dielectric optical material. The prerequisites for such applications include the selection of an appropriate material and effective bio-functionalization. Spin-on glass (SOG) is one of the preferred polymers that can be easily deposited. Further, the chemical properties of the polymer make it amenable for bio-functionalization. This paper reports a detailed study of a protocol for immobilization of antibodies on SOG for possible…
This paper reports a detailed study of a protocol for immobilization of antibodies on SOG for possible immunobiosensor applications. The effect of silanization at different pH values on the number of free and usable amine sites was quantified by fluorimetry. Contact angle measurements, ellipsometry, AFM, and fluorescence microscopy was used for assessing the surface properties at various stages of preparation, functionalization and biomolecule immobilization.

Surface modification and Biofunctionalization of HSQ film
EMRS, Strasburg, France
Hydrogen Silsesquioxane (HSQ) has been recognized as a potential candidate for low dielectric constant in VLSI technology applications. The use of HSQ as a biosensor sur-face has been limited by the fact that immobilization of biomolecules on HSQ surface has not yet been reported. Transformation of cage structure of HSQ into a network structure terminated with OH bonds was achieved by annealing the HSQ layer in nitrogen ambient. Density of the surface siloxane bonds (Si-OH) per molecule was…
Hydrogen Silsesquioxane (HSQ) has been recognized as a potential candidate for low dielectric constant in VLSI technology applications. Density of the surface siloxane bonds (Si-OH) per molecule was further increased by cleaving Si-H bonds using sulphochromic solution treatments. The resultant surface was functionalized for biological applications via grafting of amine groups using aminosilanes (AEAPS). Surface modification using silanization process was investigated using contact angle measurement and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM). Following this, the surface was incubated with human immunoglobulin (HIgG). The efficacy and uniformity of im-mobilization of HIgG was demonstrated by allowing FITC tagged goat anti-HIgG to react with the surface and observing under a fluorescence microscope.

Fabrication of GMRF Structure on Glass Substrates by Direct Electron Beam Lithography
ECS Conference, Montreal, Canada
Guided mode resonance filter (GMRF) devices have been used for optical communication, environmental monitoring and biosensing applications. These versatile devices are popular due to their spectral response and simplicity in structure. The spectral response of these devices critically depends on device physical parameters like grating period, fill factor, grating thickness, etc. Slight change in the dimensions of structure results in undesired behavior of device. This effect may be overcome by…
Guided mode resonance filter (GMRF) devices have been used for optical communication, environmental monitoring and biosensing applications. These versatile devices are popular due to their spectral response and simplicity in structure. The spectral response of these devices critically depends on device physical parameters like grating period, fill factor, grating thickness, etc. Slight change in the dimensions of structure results in undesired behavior of device. This effect may be overcome by precise fabrication of sub-micron devices using minimum fabrication steps. This may be accomplished by high resolution electron beam lithography (EBL) for patterning of sub-micron features. Drawbacks of EBL, namely proximity effect and charging effect, can be overcome by optimizing the exposure parameters and using a conducting layer. Accordingly a GMRF device was fabricated using a simple fabrication process involving EBL. The process adopts a top conducting layer approach, and uses metal lift-off and dry etching. The fabricated structure on glass can be used as a mold for imprint lithography.

Photonic Crystal Based Biosensor with in-built Nanofluidics Channels
ECS conference, Montreal
A photonic crystal (PC-s) is essentially made of a periodic pattern of high and low refractive index materials on optically transparent substrate. Such a pattern acts as a waveguide as well as a grating layer and resonate the PC at a particular wavelength. The resonance wavelength depends on grating period, refractive indices of materials, grating thickness, and geometry of structure. A small change in the dimensions of the PC results in undesired behavior of the PC. Therefore, it is essential…
Therefore, it is essential to fabricate such a device with minimal fabrication processes to minimize fabrication inaccuracy. In this paper, a systematic approach for the development of PC for biosensing application has been discussed. A novel approach has been proposed for the transportation of biomolecules using an in-built nanofluidic channel.

Design, Optimization and Micro-fabrication of RF MEMS Switch for Communication Application
-
Design of Novel RF MEMS switch for high switching speed and electrostatic actuation. These two are inter-dependent parameters of RF MEMS switch. Design of switch compromises with either of the parameters, however, proper optimization of cantilever beam structure may resolve this problem at certain extend. Also simplified design and novelty in the fabrication process will definitely reduce overall cost of the device.
