Work with people who challenge you everyday I was in a conversation with 2 Engineering Managers where they asked me questions as a Product Manager on the team point blank - What is the value of doing 'x' and how did you hypothesize 'x' when our metrics say 'y' is probably our best direction. As a PM, data collected through logs/ metrics plays a huge role in decision making. There is also a common saying that "Data (or code) wins the argument". But a huge part of becoming a successful PM is learning what the users really want, their psychology, what they don't want, what they absolutely dread and dislike and so much more. You need to embody your users. You need to develop a product intuition that you can use from time to time. In situations like these, creating a bold hypothesis which is data informed not data based and testing that hypothesis, arguably brings big breakthroughs and better features/ launches. Creating your hypothesis, putting it forward, getting challenged, working tirelessly through the feedback and eventually getting the right people aligned is a recipe for building and launching successful things. Working at Meta for almost 3 years now has made me realize how important it is to work with people smarter than you and get challenged every day. Eyes are the gateway to mind and soul! As a PM and a UX designer, getting insights from customers is always a challenge. Each customer brings their own tapestry of thoughts and emotions. Some are transparent, wearing their thoughts on their sleeve, while others offer cryptic responses to our inquiries. Unlocking the treasure trove of their unspoken needs often relies on keen observations and probing questions. ***How to ramp up quickly in any product role and bring fresh insights to the table*** 1. Start with a beginner's mind. Don't start with a pre-conceived mindset. Meet and greet relevant folks and make copious notes. Now is the time to ask all questions, clarify all pieces of jargon. Ask a lot of questions around what are the top themes/focus areas for the org at this point of time. 2. Understand the org structure, it helps in understanding the flow of information, who are your key stakeholders and who to go to for insights in a specific area. Understand the org DNA, when there are conflicting goals what does the org prioritize. 3. Do lots of customer calls - get an outside in perspective. Dogfood your product. Get access to all important dashboards and also build a way forward for new dashboards for key metrics that you feel are missing. 5. Always aim for a good mix of functional areas and levels - senior and junior folks while speaking to folks.. Junior folks in the trenches will give you rich info on building blocks, how things happen at ground level. Senior folks will be able to give you a zoomed out view. Both views are super imp. PMing for a mature product with half a million+ MAU & 200+ enterprise customers, is a lot of responsibility. Any miss can impact the 6 Lakh daily rosters. I need to get it right and there is a very little room for error. Inspite of using 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 to build Craveo, we have not yet launched our product to IOS users. But why 🤔 1. The TG fit is much higher with Android users 2. The concept of "Sharing Intent" is completely different in IOS (something which is a major part of Craveo) 3. Laser sharp focus on single OS this omitting the subsequent hassle *and here is a not so messy demo of Craveo | India's 1st Food Comparison App*
