Leadership Lessons from Mom! This Mother's Day, I've been contemplating the profound lessons learned from my strong bond with my mother and how she's influenced not just me personally, but also my views on leadership. My mother, lovingly referred to as 'Mamma', had a career in banking spanning nearly three decades before choosing voluntary retirement. She expertly balanced her roles as a wife, an exceptional mother to two children, managed our home, and excelled in her job simultaneously. Despite her exhaustion, she was always there for us, nurturing, guiding, and supporting our family every step of the way. During challenges, my mother provided unwavering comfort, reminding me that failure is a stepping stone to success. When I expressed my aspiration to become a leader, she smiled and shared a childhood story where my inclination towards giving back and helping others shone through. Her insight highlighted qualities of leadership—empathy, kindness, and the ability to unite others for a common cause. Observing my mother's resilience, compassion, and strong connection with others inspired me deeply. Inspired by my mom’s words, I embarked on my journey. Her love was boundless, encouraging growth, instilling confidence, and offering a safe haven during tough times. She selflessly sacrificed for my well-being, instilling in me a sense of duty towards others. The bond has taught me several valuable leadership lessons: Empathy and Understanding: Understand the perspectives of those you lead. Empathy builds trust and fosters strong relationships. Encouragement and Support: A mother's encouragement can move mountains. Similarly, leaders who support & uplift their teams, offering guidance and feedback help teams succeed. Resilience in Adversity: Embrace failure as a learning opportunity. Stay resilient in the face of challenges and use setbacks as stepping stones to growth. Value Relationships: Think about a mother-daughter duo—strong and deeply connected. Cherish the connections you have with your team members. Strong relationships create a positive work environment and drive success. Lead by Example: Set a positive example through your actions and decisions. Your integrity and dedication will inspire others to follow suit. This bond has significantly influenced my leadership style, emphasizing nurturing, guiding, uplifting, celebrating victories, and prioritizing team success and development. When there was no concept of ESG, C-Quel started that concept unknowingly because of the strong value system, empathy, righteousness and foresight of C-Quel owners. A Personal Journey of Growth and Empowerment 📈 👉 I have been working in C-Quel since last 11 years . When I joined from a different domain , I was feeling very bad and was unable to concentrate in simple work. I was feeling extremely depressed. Our MD called me and tried to understand my problem. He then suggested me to take a transfer to Mumbai with a leadership role. He told me a leader can’t do only routine stereotyped work . He needs more responsibilities and challenges to get job satisfaction and to hone his skills. I was initially scared to leave Kolkata.  👉 Our MD personally identified a flat owned by an Ex Army Officer during his Mumbai trip and accompanied me to finalize the rent deal to ensure my comfort and security. It was a very difficult decision to leave my parents , small daughter and wife at Kolkata. I was never forced to accept this transfer. But I had full confidence in my MD’s decision. From Mumbai I was transferred to Delhi. The Power of Ethical Leadership 🥇 👉 After 11 years, I can confidently say that leaving Kolkata was the best decision of my life. I've grown so much as a professional, gained knowledge, and received exposure with the highest authority of the Government as the Regional Head - Delhi of C-Quel. I'm proud to represent a company that spends time and resources to bring labour reforms, fight against corruption, and ensure Ease of Doing Business. Currently, I am posted in Kolkata and leading a big team (both central and regional) on a positive note with zeal and enthusiasm. Creating Happiness in an Ethical Manner 🤗  👉 Before C-Quel , I worked in several companies. But in C-Quel, I was pleasantly surprised to see how creating HAPPINESS IN AN ETHICAL manner can also be a goal of a successful company instead of chasing only MONEY. Despite this unique approach C-Quel is growing @ 20% or more annually. 👏 Standing Firm on Ethical Principles ⚖️ 👉 In fact , C-Quel MD terminated several contracts with highly reputed companies who refused to comply despite repeated requests from C-Quel. Driving in Pune: A Daily Odyssey Are you ready for a thrilling adventure ride? Imagine yourself at the starting line of an exhilarating journey. You get to choose your adventure park—the one that promises the most unforgettable experience. If you're up for a real challenge, try navigating the roads of Pune. Trust me, it's an adventure like no other. In this adventure, forget about the usual safety gadgets—no helmets required. You can weave through any lane—left, right, or just zip, zap, zoom! Feel free to enter the BRT lane without worrying about fines. You can drive in the wrong zones, enter from the wrong side of the road, and keep honking to your heart's content. Talk on the phone while driving, and pack as many people into your vehicle as you can, regardless of capacity limits. But there's a catch. To survive this ride, your mind and eyes must possess 360-degree vision. Your side mirrors and rear view mirror are your best allies. For example, if you need to turn left, you signal your intention. But that's not all. You must assess the driving patterns of those around you, anticipating their unpredictable moves. Always be on the lookout for daring individuals who might take a right turn from the wrong side. It's up to you to protect your vehicle and navigate safely around these unexpected obstacles. While I present this scenario with a touch of humor, it underscores a serious issue. The current state of traffic in Pune is concerning. City officials need to address these challenges urgently to ensure the safety of all drivers and public transport users. Implementing mandatory helmet use, enforcing lane discipline, imposing fines, and installing more cameras for monitoring are critical steps. These measures will help foster self-discipline among drivers. I envision a future with better traffic rules and policies. To achieve this, we need the collective effort of all drivers. I urge everyone reading this to take a pledge to drive responsibly. By setting an example, we can lead the way and inspire others in our city to follow suit. Let's transform our streets from a chaotic adventure into a safe and enjoyable journey for everyone. Together, we can make a difference and create a driving culture that prioritizes safety, respect, and responsibility.
