I called a user who had given a one star rating to our app on playstore. A quick background of the app : Flipshope app displays deals (huge price drop) from Flipkart, Amazon, Myntra and other shopping platforms. These deals are limited time deals and their price increases very quickly. eg - A 2999 smartwatch is available for just Rs.799 but only for few minutes or an hour in some cases. Back to our user story : He gave one star because he couldn't buy the product at deal price. When he checked the price, it was already up. Now as a 3rd party app, we don't have much control over this and I explained him the same. But he was quite frustrated. Though we are currently working on the 'perception' part of product where - we want users to know what exact role of our app is, I have come to realise that no matter how hard you try, your users will not use or perceive the app as you thought(or as your PRD mentioned). The best case will be to minimise the deviation if it is affecing the business (app ratings in our case). In other cases, such deviation in users' behaviour is a good signal to reflect back on your : ☑️ Targetting : Whether you are targetting and acquiring the right set of audience ☑️ Right set of features : Since your users are behaving differently from what you had expected, its better to priortise their behaviour pattern than your hypothesis. The more you get your hands dirty, more is your product learnings and horizon. #productmanagement

Meesho, an Indian social commerce platform with 150M transacting users, raises $275M A leading e-commerce startup in India with about 150 million transacting users, has secured $275 million in a new funding round, the company disclosed in a securities filing. The new funding is part of a larger financing round that is likely to include secondary transactions and balloon to over $500 million, people familiar with the matter told TechCrunch. The Bengaluru-headquartered startup, which operates a social commerce platform, is being valued at about $3.9 billion in the round, the people said, requesting anonymity as deliberations are still ongoing. The startup, which has raised more than $1.2 billion to date, was valued at $4.9 billion when it last raised capital in September 2021. There have been a few investors trying to get into Meesho, including WestBridge Capital and Norwest Venture Partners. WestBridge last year bought Meesho shares from Venture Highway, an early-backer. The company counts Meta Fidelity Investments, Peak XV Partners,Prosus Ventures B Capital , and SoftBank Group Corp. among its backers. Indian daily The Economic Times first reported the new funding. Meesho is among the fastest growing e-commerce startups in the country. It had run-rate GMV of more than $5 billion, Bernstein analysts estimated earlier this year. Meesho has successfully captured the attention of value-conscious Indians with its attractively priced, diverse and unbranded assortment of goods. The startup’s value proposition appears to be resonating well with low- to mid-income customers, who form the bulk of India’s consuming class. I usually choose Zomato over Swiggy only for this one reason. - Their discounts are more or less the same - Their quality of service is also the same - Both UIs are top notch However, Zomato says “plastic-neutral” deliveries. I see it on their delivery bags and the first screen that opens in their app - and I appreciate it. I don’t know if Zomato has a way of measuring how many customers’ buying decision is influenced by this communication - but even if it’s a drop in the ocean, I’d love for the team to know that mine is. As a business owner, I feel more and more responsible to take the right decision towards the environment even in my office. One of the most effective and easy things we have done in our office is to use steel cups instead of disposable cups that our tea uncle gets twice a day. In the last 3 years, we have stopped at least a thousand cups or more from adding to waste this way. #customerservice #startups Lot of startup founders & companies put in a lot of effort in building their product, technology, website/app as well as customer acquisition strategy. Very few focus on customer service from day one and its more of an afterthought! Customer service is such a critical function to build a successful business. Lot of the initial momentum and repeat business will depend on word of mouth, referrals, positive social media and fast resolution of customer issues. Customer service doesn't mean just solving customer queries as per defined SLA's - its so much more! The CS team gets the best feedback about your product, process & competition directly from your customers... more often than not most of the customer issues will have similar patterns, these are the pain points you solve to improve your process. Its absolutely critical to have direct conversations with your service teams and not create multiple layers in between. Getting new customers is great; retaining happy customers is critical. Focus on customer service!

The opposite of pursuing goals for the sake of external rewards (which often involve monetary gains). 3.Mental Flexibility : Mental flexibility allows founders to abandon a thought pattern, a habit or a perspective when it no longer serves a valuable purpose and find an alternative direction. At its peak, mental flexibility pushes founders to navigate smoothly through a variety of options and alternatives, even at times of significant stress. It supports them in adapting to new and unexpected situations quickly and efficiently. Skilled India report : Over 35% B tech students are unemployable, 30% of MBA, 60% of ITI and over 75% of polytechnic students are uenmployable. There is a huge gap in what is required and taught. Outdated textbooks, concepts not relevant to present day requirements. If companies hire those with gap in skills, they have to spend minimum 6 months to make them employable and ready for the Job. Not all companies have such budgets for training plus the employees might leave after 6 months or a year so what about ROI spent on training? India is at cusp IMO when it comes to consumer startups. 1. Depending on category almost 4-10x of current customer base will become "first time" customers over the next 5-7 years. thats the sheer size of the market. 2. Many categories will continue to be massive and fragmented - this means even a sub 5% market share is a couple of thousand crore opportunity. 3. With every passing year - you will have 2-3x more customers who have already brought your product/service and your repeat/retention is key if you are able to have high repeat/retention cohorts then you can continue to acquire customers at a higher CAC cos your blended CAC will be good. This means your competition will be at a disadvantage for real and it wont be a function of who has the maximum cash in the bank! If you are starting up in the consumer sector, your customer service is the biggest moat. For us at PYT - Unsolicited positive feedback (UPF) like these are the true measure of how things are. I strongly believe that if you delight customers, they do take time to call it out. The repeat/referral of such mentions are beyond any attribution, measure :) The key is to keep raising the bar and fixing the gaps. Thats what keeps us awake at night at Pickyourtrail.

Hey everyone, I wanted to share some insights from our latest analysis at TalentRecruit on the layoff trends in Indian startups this year. The numbers are quite revealing and open up a lot of discussions on what's happening in our industry. Here's what we found: Sector-wise Layoffs: EdTech took the biggest hit with 39.8%. Consumer Services followed at 20.9%. E-commerce accounted for 11.1%. HealthTech, FinTech, OP Tech, and other sectors made up the rest. Reasons Behind Layoffs: Restructuring led to 18,760 layoffs. Cost Cutting was the reason for 8,739 layoffs. Company-specific Impact: Byju's laid off 16.67% of its workforce. ShareChat saw a whopping 41.18% reduction. Dunzo had 17.83% layoffs. Smaller companies like 1K Kirana and Frontrrow faced massive cuts of 60% and 90%, respectively. On the Global Front: Companies like Meta, Amazon, Google, and Microsoft also made significant cuts, with X laying off 80% of its workforce.
