It was an interesting HR Round Table with the HR fraternity and experts from the #wellness field. Clearly, the #futureofwork will need to incorporate #employeewellbeing at the workplace. It would mean being sensitive to the physical health and #mentalhealth of employees. #Leadership initiatives would need to include #sustainableleadership and management leading to organizational sustainability. HR has a role to play in order to sensitize business leaders thru the 3 Ds - Data, Dialogue and Determination in convincing them on the importance of #holistic #employeewellbeing. How did SSAG Cognition 1.0 become a huge success in 2024? It all started with the warriors (volunteers) who came with lots of energy, knowing and understanding each other naturally forming as a 'self organized' scrum team. Scrum values got deeply rooted in our DNAs which came out as our natural abilities in this conference. Understanding the needs from time to time 'focusing' wherever needed and effectively 'planning' using 'weekly reviews' and thinking and being agile all the time. Right logistics planning and coordination among Emcees with creative thoughts and presentations is another great step that hit the chord in the right way showing 'commitment' levels beyond expectations. 'Mutually respecting' each other's thoughts and always showing 'openness' to ideas is another key trait of warriors. 'Courage' of negating with others thoughts if those really didn't make sense helped us picking the right ones in the ideation stage itself. Mind blowing infrastructure is another key asset for us . Thanks to the Infosys team. Strong selection of speakers & panelists and their big heart to contribute voluntarily is a backbone for this event. Industry experts also helped us here supporting our conference. Innovative thoughts like having fun using skit, awarding people who paid more attention, quizzes has really made a value add. Finally a great audience who took the true value by focusing and asking the right questions helped wide knowledge sharing. This clearly said and proved that if you have the right team in place, half of your job is done. A serendipitous discovery from a post on X lead me to this book “Jonathan Livingston Seagull” last week. I must say that the book has left an indelible mark. The book, just a breezy read for an hour and 30 minutes conveys something so beautiful that one keeps wanting to go back to it again and again. The writing of Richard Bach has a lyrical & visual tone which makes one visualize the beautiful story of a simple Seagull and its flight to its personal greatness. Talk about a book being allegorical, this one takes the cake. To me the message of the book is encapsulated in the following quote, “You will begin to touch heaven, Jonathan, in the moment that you touch perfect speed. And that isn’t flying a thousand miles an hour, or a million, or flying at the speed of light. Because any number is a limit, and perfection doesn’t have limits. Perfect speed, my son, is being there.” Simply put all of us have a singular purpose in life, to become our best each day and better it the next. There are no limits to that journey and hence no end. Right up there in the all time greatest books one has read. Context Setting at SHRM Tech Conference SHRM (Society for Human Resource Management) runs one of the top rated conferences in Hyderabad every year. This conference has 1500 people in the hall and another 3500 online. Friday is my favorite day of the week, it’s a time to reflect on what all was accomplished and look forward to some respite and unwinding. This Friday even more so as I got a chance to attend NASSCOM's WOMEN PRODUCT CHAMPOINS ROADSHOW - BANGALORE 2024 (nasscom deeptech) My 3 main takeaways from this engagement 1.   Power of community & mentorship: Getting to know and interact with product passionate folks from diverse industries and experiences was very enriching. Getting focused mentorship from product professionals who I look up to was a privilege and something I would really seek more intentionally! Thanks Dipika Kapadia and Shweta Kaushik Sinha for your candid feedback and guidance. 2.   Stay relevant, keep learning : Curated sessions by industry experts and women leaders and wonderfully moderated by male allies made me reflect on where I stand today both as a product professional and as a woman professional. It also made me more appreciative of the #allies and #support I get both at home and work (Swiss Re). 100 years since the first Labour Day in India. Employees in the unorganized sector are still seeking the social safety that they deserve. As per the latest government data, India has about 44 crore workers in the unorganized sector. A significant percentage of them are informal workers - employees engaged in activities that have market value and would add to tax revenue and GDP if recorded. 2022 data on the workers registered on the e-Shram portal revealed that about 94.11% of the registered informal workers have a monthly income of Rs 10,000 or below. The above data are tiny drops in the ocean. The reality of India’s labor sector could be a tough and complex one to measure and tackle. The migrant workers, for example, are constantly on the move. Some take their family along with them despite critical living conditions and zero or minimal safety. The situations of domestic helpers, janitors/security personnel, or delivery associates are not satisfactory either. Climate change and its adverse effects also impact the livelihood of many in the unorganized sector. - Can the central and state governments ensure security for gig workers?  - Can those in power ensure stringent safety guidelines for work that involves machinery or life-threatening conditions?  - Can we, as humans be respectful and thankful to those supporting us daily? For India to become the economic superpower it aspires to be, technology alone is not enough but the social security of all workers who build the country, brick by brick. Happy May Day! Understanding IRDA's Recent Changes in Health Insurance Policies. In its continuous efforts to improve the health insurance landscape, the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India has announced significant changes that will impact policyholders across the country. These changes aim to streamline processes, enhance transparency, and ensure fair treatment of policyholders. Let's delve into the key changes introduced by IRDA and how they may affect you: 1. Reduction in Pre-Existing Disease (PED) Waiting Period: One of the notable changes introduced by IRDA is the reduction in the waiting period for pre-existing diseases (PED) from 48 months to 36 months. This reduction will enable policyholders to access coverage for pre-existing conditions sooner, providing them with timely financial support for their healthcare needs. 2. No Age Restriction for Elderly Individuals Subject to Medical Underwriting: IRDA has also removed age restrictions for elderly individuals applying for health insurance, subject to medical underwriting. This change ensures that senior citizens have the opportunity to secure adequate health insurance coverage without facing age-related barriers, thereby promoting inclusivity and access to healthcare. 3. Decrease in Moratorium Period for Claims Involving Pre-Existing Illness: Additionally, IRDA has revised the moratorium period for claims related to pre-existing illnesses. Earlier, insurers could contest claims for non-disclosure of pre-existing illnesses only after eight years. With the new guidelines, such claims are deemed incontestable after a period of five years. This change provides policyholders with greater clarity and certainty regarding the admissibility of their claims, enhancing trust and transparency in the insurance ecosystem. These recent changes by IRDA highlight the regulator's commitment to safeguarding the interests of policyholders and promoting a more efficient and consumer-centric health insurance sector. Transforming EXL Insurance F&A: A Journey of Growth & Collaboration I am a member of a business unit in EXL’s Insurance segment known as ‘Insurance F&A’. This strategic unit specializes in the niche space of Finance & Accounting for the insurance sector. In the last two years we have grown 2X & expanded into multiple regions across the globe. As we partner with CFOs & C level executives at a deeper level & bring data & AI led approach to solve their problems, it has put the spotlight on talent & reimagining our approach to developing talent. As a leader of this vertical, Prashant Poddar shared a vision of creating “A thriving finance workforce”. He placed his trust in me to bring this vision to life. Partnering with my colleagues Suresh M. & Dr. Saurabh Sharma, we translated his vision into our mission: To create a talent pipeline that would lead EXL Insurance F&A to new heights. Through this journey, I picked the following lessons:  1) Understanding People through Data: We began by collating & segmenting data to understand how much time our team members could invest in training & what truly mattered to them. This process allowed us to define distinct personas, which became critical for shaping our customized development plans. 2) Listening to diverse perspectives: Our journey wasn’t a solo endeavor. We actively sought input from our leaders & employees. Their diverse perspectives enriched our approach. Our collaborative efforts ensured that our development plans resonated with everyone. Armed with valuable feedback, we meticulously crafted customized development plans that revolved around 3 essential pillars: I) Leadership skills, II) Deepening domain expertise through our inhouse certification program led by large pool of domain experts & learning from their experiences, External certifications, and III) Broadening awareness in Data & AI. The launch of the customized employee development plan, spearheaded by Suresh & Saurabh alongside our visionary leaders Ruchika Agarwal, Ravindra Pratap Singh,Naresh Upadhyay,Karunakar Kaushik Dajinder Bawa & Saurabh Sateeja, received resounding recognition. Now, each month, we assess our progress against the plan, identifying areas of focus & making necessary tweaks to adapt to evolving needs. Managing an inclusive team!!! Managing inclusive team effectively requires balancing the principles of "Same stroke for different folks" and "Different strokes for different folks." Same Stroke for Different Folks 1) Providing equal opportunities to all team members 2) Establishing performance standards and goals. 3) Avoiding favoritism and personal biases Different Strokes for Different Folks 1) Identify and bet on the unique skills, strengths, and needs of each team member. 2) Different motivational strategies suiting individuals 3) Working arrangements to suit individual situations Combining the two approaches 1) Inclusive culture that values both fairness and individuality 2) Creating balance between consistent core values and individual management 3) Promote teamwork and collaboration by appreciating diverse contributions and ensuring everyone feels valued and included.
