In recent days, we welcomed 30 young diplomats from various African countries who are currently enrolled in the Executive Master in "Global Public Diplomacy and Sustainable Development" at the Luiss School of Government and UNITAR Education Group supported by the Ministero degli Affari Esteri e della Cooperazione Internazionale. In our #InnovationHub, we illustrated the crucial role of innovation in designing the airports of the future. Our Head of Innovation, Giulio Ranucci, explained ADR's ongoing commitment to foster new potential collaboration with the African continent both in terms of airports and cutting edge startups. The meeting was also an opportunity for Giannandrea Ingallinera, our expert on Sustainability Reporting & Compliance, to present Aeroporti di Roma's sustainability strategy and our leadership in achieving the goal of becoming Net-Zero Carbon by 2030. Today, our CEO Marco Troncone shared Aeroporti di Roma’s view on the ITA Airways & Lufthansa deal: “We express great satisfaction with the European Commission’s green light, in view of the closing of the Ita Airways-LH deal, achieved thanks to the Italian Government in the interest of the country. The combination will allow for the valorisation of key strategic national assets,” our CEO commented. “In fact , this will happen in strong synergy with Rome airport, best in Europe and one of the few 5-stars global hubs. Rome Fiumicino is a future-proof airport and will be an increasingly competitive hub on the European scene, thanks to its strategic positioning in the Mediterranean and the accelerating integration with high speed trains.”

We are thrilled to announce the launch of the #PIONEER project implementation at Fiumicino Airport! The PIONEER project, an innovative electric storage system made up of Second Life batteries from three different car manufacturers, is now in its implementation phase. This innovative storage system, with a capacity of 10 MWh, was cofunded by the European Union through the Innovation Fund call by CINEA - European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency. ADR participated in the Innovation Fund call in collaboration with Enel X, for the design and implementation of the storage, and Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering IAO, which will contribute with research and analysis on battery performance. This Second Life Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) will assist us in optimizing our energy performance, reducing CO₂ emissions, and supplying green energy to the airport's terminals. This project represents a significant step forward in our commitment to sustainability and innovation, contributing to the energy transition and reducing operational costs through integration with renewable energy sources. A special thanks to our partners Enel X and Fraunhofer Institute for their valuable support in this ambitious project.
