The #ActionReflection is a new methodology introduced by AVSI in its #evaluation processes. With this approach, local participants are involved through interviews, discussion groups, and surveys in the final evaluation to deeply explore the implications of the projects on people's lives. In 2023, the application of the Action Reflection approach in the "Maziwa" "project (“milk” in Swahili), implemented by Avsi Kenya with Agenzia Italiana per la Cooperazione allo Sviluppo - Sede di Nairobi’s funds and in partnership with IPSIA ACLI, the Don Bosco organization, and the County Government of Meru, allowed the staff to explore the side effects of the intervention, with a #co-valuation of the results. Beneficiary testimonies indicate that: ⬆︎ Domestic food quantity has increased, with 98% of farmers reporting a more varied and rich diet ⬆︎ More students are enrolled in school, with 51% of farmers enrolling their children ⬆︎ Medical insurance coverage has increased, with 54% of beneficiaries having insurance for the first time ⬆︎ The reduced distance between beneficiaries' homes and milk sale points improves work-life balance

The new European Union funded project PAMOJA has officially started. Through this program, AVSI, in collaboration with the International Rescue Committee and the Conseil des Organisations Féminines Agissantes en Synergie, aspires to support the integration of 7,000 Burundian people who have found refuge in the province of South Kivu, in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo (#DRC). After the 2015 post-electoral violence, many people left Burundi for a safer place. The PAMOJA initiative is specifically addressed to people who live outside refugee camps and therefore do not receive any basic assistance. Thanks to the project, the beneficiaries will receive: 🟢 #Education: sensitizing 9,000 parents, supporting 800 out-of-school children, catch-up courses for 2,700 kids, training for 320 teachers, and rehabilitating 32 schools 🔵 Social cohesion: engaging 1,200 local authorities and civil society members to enhance peaceful cohabitation 🟢 Socio-economic reintegration: providing vocational training for 60 youths and involving 1,440 women in local decision-making 🔵 #Livelihood actions: training 800 household heads in sustainable agriculture and forming 15 Village Savings and Credit Association https://lnkd.in/eT2RygBD

Having been invited to the Inter-American Development Bank's Regional Dialogue on Social Protection Policies, AVSI Regional Managers Fiammetta Cappellini and Fabrizio Pellicelli are participating in the discussion on building adaptive social protection systems in the Caribbean and Latin America. AVSI's experience in these areas, in partnership with the IDB and many other actors, highlights the importance of such systems being inclusive towards vulnerable groups and fragile communities, while also taking into account the now obvious impact of #ClimateChange, investing in anticipatory capacity and resilience building. #PeopleForDevelopment

"AVSI has a role in supporting existing #enterprises to reach new markets. A couple of years ago we collaborated with Marula PROTEEN in #Uganda, a company that produces fertilizers from organic waste. We helped them tailor their product to fit the budget of the poorest farmers we were working with. In this way, we were helping the enterprise to find a bigger #market and at the same time enabling the poorest people to access cheaper products. This is a way we work to stimulate and contribute to the #ecosystem." Francesca Oliva, energy expert for AVSI, at the Startup Africa Roadtrip hosted by Cariplo Factory.

Dony Sapienza, vicepresidente Centro Orizzonte Lavoro. #giovani #occupazione #formazione #inclusionesociale #PeopleforDevelopment
