Most of us consume popcorns, but from maize. AGRA through Strengthening Regenerative Agriculture in Kenya (STRAK) project has been working with Kieru Foods, owned by Mr Gichangi Mahinda, who is manufacturing pearl millet popcorns. Kieru Foods, a cottage industry located in Embu County, Kenya is turning pearl millet into pops, “popmillet”. The company’s main product is millet pops. The company uses a technology that turns cereal grains into snacks through popping, a process normally used to make popcorns. The popped pearl millets are then mixed with either honey, groundnuts, baobab, turmeric, simsim oil, ginger and cinnamon powder to produce sweet snacks. Baobab, tumeric and hibiscus are used to add flavour. The company sources produce from smallholder farmers in the area through 10 VBAs. On average, the company procures 1MT per week of cereal grains and produces about 70Kgs of popped millet per day which is sold to local retailers. The product is then packaged into small sachets for distribution in schools, kiosk and supermarkets. Mr Mahinda, journey to entrepreneur could not have been possible without the support of #AGRAKenya. The success story of agribusinesses like Mr Mahinda relies on embracing a comprehensive strategy to cultivate sustainable growth. At AGRA, we empower these small and medium-sized agribusinesses, enabling them not only to survive, but to thrive amidst evolving economic landscapes. #PoweringSMEs | #Agribusiness Aggie Asiimwe Konde AGNES KALIBATA Siki Kigongo John Macharia Dr. Mavuthu Kiwia Abednego

We commend the Ministry of Agriculture under the able leadership of H.E. Hussein Mohammed Bashe for the launch of the Agenda 10/30- an investment roadmap for accelerating agricultural growth in Tanzania. The strategy aims to radically transform the landscape of agriculture in Tanzania, addressing critical demographic and economic challenges, and setting ambitious growth targets for the next decade. Under the bold ‘Agenda 10/30’, the Ministry of Agriculture aims for a 10% growth in the sector by 2030. #FoodSystems #AGRAImpacts
