CREMA - this stands for Community Resource Management Areas, and it is an initiative that involves local farming communities in the protection and restoration of forests. With this model, in which Ferrero participates with global and local partners, communities are empowered to take action to protect natural resources, forest and wildlife, which is fundamental for long-term positive change. Hazelnuts are a key ingredient in many of Ferrero’s products, which is why we are dedicated to supporting the creation of an ethical, transparent and sustainable hazelnut supply chain. Our new Hazelnut Progress Report 2023 shows we’ve made great strides: 🌳 100% of hazelnut suppliers have acknowledged our Supplier Code 🌰 90.3% of our hazelnuts are traceable back to farms 👪 17,754 children in local communities engaged in the last three years through collective partnerships to ensure the children go to school and are provided for 🚜 >21,000 farmers reached with our Guidelines for sustainable hazelnut production But we aspire to do more. We’re pleased to launch our new Hazelnut Charter for 2024-2026, which builds on these achievements and outlines our commitment to further improvement. Respecting the Human Rights of each individual in our company and the communities where we operate has always been at the core of our business at Ferrero. Learn from our Social Sustainability Manager, Phyllis Kong, as she presents our approach to Human Rights. Over the last years, we've worked with Shift, the expert organization on business and human rights, to continuously understand our impacts and strengthen our human rights approach. We have also become member of the Consumer Goods Forum's Human Rights Coalition to eradicate forced labour issues along the value chain. Together with partners like Save the Children and the ILO, we continue to work on improving the livelihoods of the communities we source our ingredients from. Through our Cocoa Rehabilitation Project, we’re supporting cocoa farmers like 34-year-old Michael Tetteh from Awudukrom, Bonsu Nkwanta district of Ghana. Because of a plant disease that ravaged his cocoa trees, he had to completely rehabilitate his farm which involved cutting down all the cocoa trees and replanting new ones Through programmes like these, farmers acquire skills to better maintain their cocoa trees and to cultivate other crops such as plantains as additional sources of income. #WeAreFerrero #WorldChocolateDay 🍫 Read more about the programmes we've implemented in our report: https://lnkd.in/esaqH-Ag

Hazelnuts characterise the unique taste of many of Ferrero’s products. Hazelnuts come from hazel trees, which grow mainly in Mediterranean-type climates. Our expertise and tradition with this fruit go back to our roots in Alba and the Langhe region in Piedmont, Italy, where Ferrero was founded in 1946. Today, we receive our hazelnuts from different locations, and we want to ensure they are sourced following good agricultural and social practices.
