Vandaag leggen we de laatste hand aan de sociale VR-installatie Fashion Beneath the Skin, die van 26 tot en met 28 juni plaatsvindt in Beeld & Geluid. Met Fashion Beneath the Skin onderzoeken en experimenteren we samen met Beeld & Geluid en CWI hoe musea en archieven met 3D-content interactieve museumervaringen kunnen creëren. Naast mode uit de collectie van Centraal Museum Utrecht, schitteren er ook kledingstukken uit het depot van het Kunstmuseum Den Haag en het Zaans Museum, aangevuld met uniek archiefmateriaal uit de collectie van Beeld & Geluid. Ik ben super trots op het resultaat van deze pilot en neem mijn hoed af voor het fantastische team waarmee ik dit avontuur heb mogen beleven. 🆕 Next week from 26–28 June 2024 come to Nederlands Instituut voor Beeld en Geluid to experience #5DCulture collaborative social Virtual Reality (VR) installation “Fashion Beneath the Skin”, showcasing the potential of reusing digitized material and 3D garments in combination with new technologies 🤩🎉👗 Thanks to our #VR2Gather volumetric video setup, two remote visitors can simultaneously explore the virtual exhibition of digitized garments, viewing a highly realistic 3D representations of themself This work is also based on the master thesis of our student Karolina Wylężek 👏 This exhibition installation was developed in close collaboration with the Centraal Museum, Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica, European Fashion Heritage Association, Nederlands Instituut voor Beeld en Geluid, Sound & Vision - Research & Heritage, Modemuze and designer Dylan Eno. Pablo César keynote speaker at International Conference on Quality of Multimedia Experience 🥳 An overview of the main achievements of the group 👏🏆 🎙️Towards Volumetric Video Conferencing TRANSMIXR Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica

The emergence of powerful #AI, such as Large Language Models, was the main theme during the past two days of the conference 'AI’s Impact on Society, Media, and Democracy'. The event was filled with insightful talks on the impact of AI on the media and our democratic processes, and what is needed to ensure society benefits from the rapid developments in powerful AI such as Large Language Models. One of the fascinating findings that were shared, was that an astonishing 75% of the shares on Facebook that S. Shyam Sundar included in his dataset (containing 35 million URLs!) were without clicking. This is a remarkable statistic that highlights a concerning phenomenon: sharing without clicking (i.e. reading the whole news story). Sundar also made the observation that people are less attentive and suspicious of fake news when they are on their mobile phones compared to PCs. And they tend to believe fake video content more than fake written or audio content. Rafik Hadfi of Kyoto University spoke about rethinking democratic governance through generative AI, and his colleague Takayuki Ito showed his vision on a future hyperdemocracy platform. Linda Kool of the Rathenau Instituut gave a talk about the opportunities and risks of gen AI. She also discussed how Dutch and European policy makers are addressing these issues. Henriette Cramer from PaperMoon AI shared some practical routes in algorithmic impact assessment. The two-day programme wrapped up with an interactive quiz where the audience had to guess whether a text was written by a human or by AI. Quite tricky, but lots of fun!
