Almost everyone knows where to find a Starbucks store in their neighbourhood. But did you know that the location where the Starbucks Experience really starts in the Port of Amsterdam? This has been the location of Starbucks Manufacturing EMEA since 2002. Starbucks's only coffee roasting plant outside of the US. Updates

  • What an inspiring and intensive weeks those were! Last week the two-week Learning festival in Amsterdam came to an end.   From this week it will be business as usual at the roasting plant. And many partners started the week with new insights, new ideas and new knowledge (about each other):   "The biggest result for me is that we have become one team. In addition, the Ergonomics training in the factory was very interesting and had a lot of impact on the team. Thanks to the IT training, I now know that there is much more available." "The leadership training had a great impression on me. It was nice to see how managers come together and learn different leadership styles from each other, while we usually don’t connect much. We have a great mix of personalities and color profiles. In a short time, we have discussed many different models in which Insights was used as the basis. I personally thought the relationship model and change curve were very interesting and I will definitely share these models with the team so that we can all benefit from it. There are different aspects of the people leadership program that I will start using in practice."   "Gained insights :) into our own personalities and those of others. Apply incremental steps/changes, be aware of the recipient and manage according to their needs/insights. Don't assume and check-in with the partners.  Even if someone presents without any effort, it still costs him/her a lot of energy."   "The insights from the Learning festival are the foundation to work together more effectively. Knowing each other's preferred styles according the Insights Discovery, we can complement each other and achieve more."   "I thought the Learning Festival was a fun and great concept when it comes to learning, it was a great opportunity to connect with other partners from different departments as well!"   "The method SLII provides insight into an employee's maturity level and what type of guidance is appropriate. My biggest insight was that my natural coaching style is not suitable for colleagues who are still early in their development. They benefit more from directive feedback and clear concrete actions. I will have to adapt my style to that." "My unconscious coping mechanism when facing difficult situations was to dial up my strong colors more, however this training made me realize that I need to dial down my strong colors and tap into my weaker colors when collaborating with other partners. In the end, color balance within a team is the key." "I admire the openness of colleagues and that many partners feel free to say it like it is, with respect for each other. This has certainly increased the team spirit."   Organizing this festival was only possible due to the backup of some partners and PSPs, and the positive energy of all trainers. A special thank you to those who contributed behind the scenes to the success of the Learning Festival 2024! #result #craft #joy #belonging #courage #liveourvalues

This festival is a unique event in which all partners at the location are inspired by following various (mandatory) training courses.    In the first four days, the leadership team fully surrendered to the guidance of Sonali Narendran, MCIPD, Talent & Learning partner Starbucks EMEA. After an inspiring introduction from our director Lorna McCallum about the value chain from green bean to cup, the journey began for this group. About Leading Self, Leading Change, Leading Others, and Delivering High Performance. The team has returned with new insights, good ideas, structure and guidance for the future.    𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁?    Team sessions Operations  Ergonomics  Safety training  Championing Presentations  Data privacy  Cyber Security  IT support  Master your interview  Benefits     More learning news coming soon! #learningfestivalStarbucks #leadership #inspiration #joy #ToBeAPartner

  •   Global Month of Good 2024   The Social committee of the Amsterdam Roasting Plant brings a collection of activities for our partners to participate in the GMOG 2024.   This year, we're offering a diverse range of opportunities for our partners to get involved and make a positive impact.   In addition to collaborating with our UK partners on online initiatives, we're also providing volunteer opportunities right here in Amsterdam.   Making a difference in our community:   Het Koffiehuis (The Coffeehouse): This local organization provides a safe haven for Amsterdam's homeless and undocumented population. They offer daily work projects, along with a warm cup of coffee, lunch, and clean clothes.   Oma's Soep (Granny's Soup): This inspiring initiative tackles loneliness among the elderly in the Netherlands. They combine food rescue efforts with engaging social activities, where older adults cook together and prepare nutritious soups for those in need.   We've already had some fantastic participation from our partners who volunteered at Het Koffiehuis and Oma's Soep. The experience of cooking alongside and for these communities was truly enriching, and it served as a powerful reminder of the impact we can have by working together.   #GMOG2024 #socialgood #Amsterdam #community #belonging

  • Unveiling the Magic: The ARP Experience Launches! For over two decades, the Amsterdam Roasting Plant has been the heart of coffee roasting and packing for our entire region. But this year, we're opening our doors for a truly unforgettable experience: The ARP Experience! The annual Starbucks EMEA Partner Engagement Survey showed that our partners are 13% more engaged compared to last year. 81% feel emotionally engaged with their work and the organization. This is a result that we are very proud of. And -of course- there are always things that we need to continuously improve. During the Partner Forum, the results of the PES were presented to all partners by director Lorna McCallum. Afterwards, the group was divided into subgroups to provide input on different topics. This is very valuable because the feedback and ideas from the partners will allow us to continue working on improving the Partner Experience within the Amsterdam Roasting Plant in the coming years. #engagement #teamwork #starbucks

Do the Gemba Walk! Gemba is a beautiful Japanese term which means, “The place where value is created.” Every Monday, a small team with watchful eyes walks through the place where we create our valuable coffee product: the plant floor. Using the guidelines of Food Safety, Food Defense, Safety, GMPs, Chemical Control and Pest Control, the Gemba Walk focuses on equipment, processes and partner habits that could potentially harm our product or partners. This weekly snapshot gives us a measurement of our food safety performance against the monthly Food Safety and Sanitation Audit – which also gives a snapshot of the yearly BRC Audit. All actions from the Gemba Walk are documented in application by team members and ultimately contribute to the overall improvement of the Amsterdam Roasting Plant. #foodsafety #GMP #joy #gembawalk

  • At Starbucks, we believe that taking care of our partners is essential to our success. We know that when our partners are happy and healthy, they are more likely to be productive and engaged in their work. That's why we are excited to announce the kick-off of our Work & Recovery workshop series. Working in shifts is not always easy. It demands a lot from you: physically, mentally and affects your work/life balance. How can you ensure that you recover sufficiently when you are not at work? This workshop is designed for all plant partners who work shifts. It will provide partners with information and tools to help them manage their work/life balance and promote healthy recovery habits. In addition to the workshop, the one-on-one coaching will be a great opportunity to get personalized feedback and advice on how to improve your work/life balance. The workshop will be led by a team of experienced professionals from HumanTotalCare who will provide practical advice and tools that you can use in your everyday life. #workandrecovery #starbucksexperience #wecare

  • "Everyday, our Starbucks Baristas serve millions of cups of coffee worldwide. But the journey for each coffee bean begins long before it reaches our stores. This is the Amsterdam Roasting Plant." We proudly present our first brand video of the Starbucks Amsterdam Roasting Plant! Take a look behind the scenes of this special location where we produce the finest quality coffee for our customers in Europe, Middle East and Africa. This video was co-created by a team of our own plant and office partners. Special thanks to all these partners, film producer Jasper Rollema, Lara Diamond and Mischa Tan. #starbucks #coffeebeans #teamperformance

  • Counting 81,000 bags of coffee equaling a whopping total of 5,400,000 kgs in the span of one morning?   That is what a dedicated group of partners (employees) got to experience recently. The reason? Each year, a coffee count is organized to make sure our green coffee inventory numbers are as accurate as can be. With green coffee, we refer to all coffee that is yet to be roasted.   The task may seem immense at first but with the right mix of craft, courage, belonging and joy, there is little that can scare our partners off. Prior to every annual count so far, new partners from different departments sign up to join – from Planning to Quality, from Safety to Operations to Maintenance. Feedback that we often receive is that people enjoy contributing to a successful count while working together with partners they would not usually work with in their day-to-day job. Next to this, partners love learning more about our supply chain and coffee origins, taking pride in what we can achieve when working together.   Thanks to the partners that joined, we completed the count in a matter of hours with virtually no discrepancy between our physical inventory and system inventory; a great result! On to the next count with a new dedicated counting crew. #amsterdamroastingplant #teamwork #greenbeans #countingbeans
