    Started as a small idea, became one of the highlights of A State of Trance - Destination 🔥 Area III’s setup this year had a simple concept with one vertical LED screen in the middle. This simplicity gave our VJ, Christian Hoogwerf a spark to play around, and he turned the screen into a rotating shipping container. Started as a joke, but worked so well that we kept the concept for the whole weekend. The 4 sides of the container effectively created 4 “canvases”, so he had enough place for livecam, logo animations and extra layers of motion graphics. When asked about his creative process, Chris shared, “Think about the stage, think about how to add your spin. Don’t be scared to add your own sauce & spice, everyone can fade things on, so just do something special!” A perfect example of how out-of-the-box thinking and some playfulness can create a memorable design.     Our biggest collaboration so far with AWAKENINGS Festival: this was Upclose, a whole new concept for a legendary brand in the techno-scene. The idea was to create an experience that goes back to the roots of techno: being upclose, personal, raw and intense. A festival where the artists and the crowd are equal, and the only thing in highlight is the music and dancing itself. We were working closely with the Awakenings team through the design process and to make sure the whole festival site lives and breathes this new concept, we created guidelines and key checkpoints every area should have. For Area 97, we stepped away from the previous Awakenings main stage concepts and repositioned the stage to be surrounded by the woods, creating an intimate environment, instead of the big open fields we’re all used to. We used 15 standing columns spread out on the dancefloor to create a club-like atmosphere, where the audience can be close to the DJs, standing in front of them, next to them or behind them, whatever their preference is, minimising the boundaries between artists and the crowd. The 15 columns, each 12 m high, were covered with mirrorplates, reflecting the surrounding trees, equipped with light fixtures, LED strips and panels and smoke. A loooot of smoke!! All of the scenic and show elements were positioned on the truss at 3 m height and up, which created the illusion of the columns floating above the crowd. The most intimate setup was Area 24, a circular dancefloor surrounded by little grass hills, tucked away in the middle of the woods. By placing the DJ booth in the centre, which is also the lowest point of this area, we were able to bring the most upclose experience of the event on site. Even the sound system provided a 360 sound experience with speakers in 8 different directions, on top of the DJ booth’s roof. Here, we designed a geometric wooden structure which resembles the previous wooden Awakenings stages, bringing in some familiarity for the returning Awakenings visitors.     Larger than life: An anthem for the Dutch national football team, so as an anthem of teamwork and collaboration 💪 We had the opportunity to conceptualise the photoshoot and the artwork for this release, which was not only a collaboration between Armin van Buuren and Chef’special, but we also had songwriters from the football team on board!     Some Render vs Reality moments from A State of Trance - Destination 🔥 As the creative minds behind the event, we would like to share some more insight with you, and how we brought the essence of Rotterdam into our stage designs: Area I Drawing inspiration from Rotterdam's pace, our design featured long strips of LED screens reminiscent of speed trails. This setup not only paid homage to last year's main stage but also offered a unique perspective for both DJs and guests, with VIP areas strategically placed to ensure an epic view from every angle. Area II Mirroring the iconic De Hef bridge, this setup features an elongated LED screen at its core. The central focus on the bridge's middle section provided a great blank space for some custom visuals, made for especially this screen. Area III Capturing the heart of Rotterdam's harbor, this stage stole the show with its dynamic content. A towering LED screen transformed into a shipping container by captivating video content and brought to life by our talented VJ. Area IV Echoing the spirit of another iconic building, STC, this intimate stage featured scaffolding reminiscent of the city's industrial and edgy style. With its smaller size, it offered unique, intimate club-like atmosphere in the middle of the venue's busy intersection. #ASOT2024 #StageDesign #RendervsReality

    How did we connect the dots between Mercedes-AMG GmbH and IWC Schaffhausen to create a concept for the celebration of their partnership? Two points were clear: • We have to create a stronger brand experience than just a visualisation of their products and logos • Incorporate their brand ambassadors, Lewis Hamilton and George Russell with their extraordinary driving skills So what connects all of these together? Race Track + Drones + Cars + Watches = Time + Speed Finding their common factors gave us the main inspiration for the whole concept, where we put 2 cars on a race track, flying drones over them. However, since these drones can only fly roughly 18 km/hour while the cars drive a minimum of 100 km/hour, to mimic the same speed with drones, we changed the colours of their led lights. This moment resulted in one of the main highlights of this show.     The jury of the Live Entertainment Production Awards deemed that our fireworks and drones show in Amsterdam for New Year’s 2023 deserves the award for the Visuals of the Year category, and we thought, this is the perfect moment to celebrate collaboration and teamwork. Just how well the drones works together with the fireworks and the music, represents our collaborative spirit with show creation. It was a symphony of light, sound, and technology, made possible by the collaboration between our team and various companies who brought their expertise to the table. This award is not just a recognition of our creativity and innovation, but also a tribute to the dedication and hard work of every individual involved in making this spectacle a reality.     During A State of Trance day program, we had the rare opportunity to share more insight about the history and evolution of the ASOT brand. Our CEO, Co-founder, and the creative director of the ASOT brand, Sander Reneman joined the first session with Allan Hardenberg and Ruben de Ronde, led by Renske Van Kollenburg, sharing stories of the journey and vision behind ASOT. In the second session, our talented designers, Joris van Meegen, Freek Cornelissen and Jordi Kievit took the stage to discuss the design choices that went into this year's ASOT festival. From graphic design to set designs and visual elements, they provided a glimpse into the artistic process that brings the ASOT experience to life for the fans. The highlight of the day for us was definitely the engaging Q&A session where the audience had the chance to interact directly with our team. Sharing rare insights into our collaborative process and shedding light on what it's like to work alongside Armin van Buuren, was a special and exciting opportunity for everyone involved. We're immensely grateful for this experience and to contribute to the ongoing legacy of this beloved brand.
