The Danish Unifeeder Group 🇩🇰 has opened a regional office in Panama City as part of its ongoing expansion across Latin America (LATAM). The new investment comes after the opening of new routes to Aruba, Curacao, Colombia and Venezuela. The company announced that its newly formed team in Panama will provide support to Unifeeder's business units in LATAM, working closely with the headquarters in Aarhus, Denmark. Unifeeder anticipates managing over 200,000 twenty-foot containers (TEUs) and conducting 800 port calls in the region during 2024, with intentions to expand its LATAM operations further in the subsequent years. Unifeeder is a leading multi-region container and feeder operator, moving goods to and from smaller ports to hub ports for onward transportation. For example, the have services connecting Manzanillo in Panama with Oranjestad in Aruba and Willemstad in Curaçao and with Cartagena in Colombia. It is a core part of DP World, serving hundreds of ports in Europe, Asia, the Indian subcontinent, the Middle East, Africa and the Americas. The #Polish state-owned rail freight operator PKP CARGO S.A. is struggling, as are many of its counterparts across #Europe. Rumours surfaced about a possible bankruptcy for PKP Cargo and RailFreight.com went straight to the source to better understand what is happening. The Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) begins at Lianyungang, China, and crosses Kazakhstan, the Caspian, Azerbaijan, and Georgia en route to Europe. 📣 Big capacity boost for Latin American-related services 📈 The global container fleet grew 10.6% between 1 June 2023 and 1 June 2024. This huge capacity injection of 2.85 Mteu slots has helped carriers to deploy more ships in liner services between Asia or the Indian Subcontinent and Europe, where more units are needed for the re-routings via the Cape of Good Hope due to the Red Sea crisis. 📊 As a consequence of this, capacity increases on all other trades were well below 10.6%, with the Latin American region the only exception. According to Alphaliner data, the total capacity of vessels deployed in deep sea and regional liner services to and from Latin America increased from 3.5 Mteu on 1 June 2023 to 4.1 Mteu (+17.4%). 💡 Our chart of the week clearly shows the far reaching impact of the Red Sea crisis on the deployment of the overall container fleet. #CargoBreakingNews Global air cargo rates ready: TAC Index Global air freight rates were slightly changed in the week to April 22, according to the latest data from TAC Index, the leading price reporting agency on air freight markets.
