"I want every parent to know that it really does get easier... It helps so much to be open about it, to speak honestly, just as they were honest and trusting enough to tell you about themselves in the first place." In the busy final week of June leading up to Pink Dot SG & the end of Pride Month, executive director Leow Yangfa was invited to moderate a panel of senior business leaders at VF Corporation (the global apparel company with brands including Timberland, Vans, The North Face, JanSport & others), to discuss the importance of LGBTQ+ allyship in the workplace.
A conversation around Creating a safe environment for our LGBT+ associates at VF Corporation. Thank you Sara Stefanski, Puneet Khosla & Eike Ernst Michaelis for your insights into why this important conversation needs to be had and how it isn’t only important because it is Pride month, but important all year round (as Eike put it ‘why should be called Pride month and not Pride year as this needs to be talked about for more than just a month’ I loved that!)🕺 Moderated masterfully by the ever amazing Leow Yangfa from Oogachaga whom we invited back to our offices a second time (because we cannot have enough of Leow Yangfa, surely once is not enough 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾), we can’t wait to have to you back Yangfa! Also taking a moment to congratulate the amazing Pride & Allies ERG Team Tony Tsang Joffrey De Prins Sheri Quek Leslie Chen Lee Duong Luzviminda ILAGAN who organised watch parties (including food & giveaways) in Singapore, China, Taiwan, Japan, Vietnam, Philippines & Bangladesh. You ROCK 🙌🏽 THANK you for doing what you do!

For Pride Month, youth counsellor Alexander Teh & executive director Leow Yangfa were at Google to deliver a workshop & discussion on communicating with children & young people in an inclusive manner about gender & sexuality. There was clear support for senior leadership who were themselves parents, which sent a very clear message about respect, diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

🏳️🌈 Fostering Inclusion Starts at Home: A Pride Month Conversation My journey in Pride has been one of continuous learning, understanding, and advocating for the LGBTQ+ community. As both a member and a sponsor of our vibrant community at Google, I'm deeply passionate about fostering a culture of inclusivity. This Pride Month, I'm proud to have played a part in Pride@ Google SG's impactful initiative to support LGBTQ+ families and caregivers. In partnership with Parent@ Google SG and Oogachaga, a leading non-profit supporting the LGBTQ+ community in Singapore, we hosted an event centered on equipping parents and caregivers with the tools to navigate important conversations about gender and sexuality with their children. 🥅 Our goal? To create a safe space for open dialogue, learning, and sharing experiences around these important topics. We firmly believe that by providing knowledge and resources, we can empower families to foster homes where children of all identities feel loved, supported, and free to express themselves. 🤝 A big thank you to Scott Beaumont and Leow Yangfa in their participation in a panel discussion on the topic, and Alexander Teh from Oogachaga for facilitating an insightful session! Their expertise and guidance were invaluable. 🙌 At Google, we're committed to creating a workplace where everyone feels valued, respected, and empowered to be their authentic selves. This event is just one example of how we're working to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion both within our company and in the wider community. Executive director Leow Yangfa sat down with Mastercard's Head of Services in Asia Pacific, Matthew Driver, to have a fireside chat about the importance of LGBTQ+ allyship in the workplace and the role of senior business leaders.
🌈 From #Australia to #India to #Singapore, #PRIDE celebrations this year came in many forms including fireside chats on #LGBTQIA+ allyship with our friends at Oogachaga, a quiz night dedicated to empowering quotes from queer women, art sessions to encourage support for visibility and #inclusion and more. We look forward to continuing to learn and grow together on our respective journeys! #Pride2024 🌈

Societe Generale is one of several financial institutions based in Singapore that was keen during Pride Month in June to have their senior business leaders sit with Oogachaga executive director, Leow Yangfa, & have a conversation about the importance of LGBTQ+ allyship in the workplace.
In the spirit of advancing inclusivity in the workplace, our colleagues across APAC got together this #PrideMonth as part of our ongoing efforts in raising awareness and supporting LGBT+ inclusion. Led by our local Pride & Allies networks, we got involved in a range of events including a fireside chat with Oogachaga, an LGBTQ+ organisation in Singapore, a talk by Encompass HK and a movie screening in Hong Kong, and our colleagues in Mumbai tested their knowledge on LGBT+ through an in-person quiz. #Diversity and #inclusion (D&I) remains an important priority at Societe Generale. Beyond Pride Month, we strive to create a workplace where everyone feels valued, respected and empowered to be their authentic selves.

Leow Yangfa, executive director of Singaporean LGBTQ group Oogachaga, said the legalization of same-sex marriage in Thailand and Taiwan shows the momentum behind the movement is universal, and not a product of "Western values." "This is all happening in Asia, at our doorstep," Leow said. "It's not about values and ideology, it's about doing what's right for the people." Welcome to Oogachaga, Alexis Joseph! Alexis joined the professional staff team on 1 June 2024 as our new Family Support Worker, providing support for parents & family members with LGBTQ+ loved ones. 🧑💼 Prior to this, she was a mental health professional in community services, and is now delighted to do meaningful work for the LGBTQ+ community. 🧶 In her free time, she prefers staying indoors and listening to oldies, reading, netflixing (B-99), doing water-colour art or crochet. But she occasionally seeks sunlight through travel, walking, hiking, badminton and cycling. Alexis has a Bachelors of Psychological Science with Honours, and a Diploma in Psychology and Community Services.
