As we discovered in the recent Annual Cyber Security survey, a whopping 84% of all business cyber attacks last year were phishing attacks. We wanted to do our part to educate you on how to spot phishing emails, so we’ve created this image of the 8 tell tale signs to look out for. Feel free to share with any of your friends or co-workers. Here's our top tips on how to spot a phishing email: 🔍 Suspicious Email Addresses – Look out for email addresses with typos or unusual characters. 📝 Watch out for grammar and spelling mistakes – Official emails are usually well-written. 🛑 Question any requests for sensitive information – Legitimate companies won’t ask for passwords or bank details. ⏰ Beware of emails with unusual urgency and pressure – Don’t be forced or rushed into any decision. 💸 Be very wary of any financial requests – Always be on your guard for any financial requests via email. 🔗 Double-check for mismatched URLs - Hover over links and make sure these are genuine. 📧 Not using your name – This is a possible warning sign that the sender doesn’t know you. 📎 Be cautious with suspicious attachments – Be very careful of clicking attachments (or links), especially unexpected ones. As with all of the above, getting a second opinion is recommended if you’re not sure. Have you ever received a phishing email before? Let us know in the comments below. #CyberSecurityAwareness #PhishingPrevention #OnlineSecurity

We enjoy love positive stories here at Coretek, and it was great to hear from our friends at Bluecrest Wellness about their enhanced IT security since teaming up with Coretek. We've worked with them making several improvements, such as introducing a solid security baseline to bring their entire IT systems up to a good level. Additionally, we set up a cloud backup solution and boosted security while cutting costs by eliminating outdated hardware. Bluecrest’s Head of Operations, Adam, shared his thoughts: “Our partnership with Coretek has been incredibly rewarding. Not only have they saved us money and optimised our IT infrastructure, but their security-first mindset has significantly reduced our risk and provided enhanced protection for our systems and data. Perhaps one of the most valuable aspects of our collaboration is the data resilience achieved through our Veeam backup implementation. We’re confident in our ability to recover and protect our data. We highly recommend Coretek for their cost-saving solutions, efficient IT infrastructure recommendations and unwavering commitment to a ‘security-first’ approach.” If you're keen on keeping your business's IT secure, don't hesitate to contact us and send a message today.

The Government has just released their Annual Cyber Security Breaches Survey. We’ve read through the whole thing and have condensed it down to the most important findings, so you don’t have to. Here are the five crucial takeaways every business owner should know:   Half of all businesses had a cyber attack - In 2023, half of all businesses and about a third of charities experienced cyber security breaches or attacks in the last year. This risk increases significantly with the size of the organization. Phishing was the most common form of attack - Phishing remains the most widespread form of cyber attack, affecting 84% of businesses and 83% of charities that reported breaches. Businesses are putting better protection in place- Adoption of fundamental cyber hygiene measures like malware protection and password policies is on the rise, with significant improvements noted over the previous year. Less than half of businesses are insured against Cyber Attacks - Only 43% of businesses and 34% of charities say they have insurance against cyber security risks. Most businesses don’t have a plan in place if they’re attacked - Despite many organizations claiming otherwise, only 22% of businesses and 19% of charities actually have formal incident response plans in place, reflecting a persistent gap found in previous years. Understanding these trends can help safeguard your business against today’s threats. If you want to read the full report, check out the link in the comments.
