The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has just published 'Antimicrobial Resistance Threats in the United States, 2021-2022', highlighting new data which shows: 1) Bacterial antimicrobial-resistant hospital-onset infections increased by a combined 20% during the COVID-19 pandemic compared to the pre-pandemic period, peaking in 2021, and remaining above pre-pandemic levels in 2022 for six out of the seven pathogens analysed. 🦠🔬📈 2) The number of reported clinical cases of Candida auris (C. auris) - a type of yeast that can spread in healthcare facilities, is often resistant to antifungal medications, and can cause severe illness - increased nearly five-fold from 2019 to 2022. 🧫 This is a stark reminder that #AMR is an urgent global public health threat, killing at least 1.27 million people worldwide and associated with nearly 5 million deaths annually (Lancet, 2019). The estimated national cost to treat infections caused by six antimicrobial-resistant germs frequently found in health care can be substantial—more than $4.6 billion annually, found a collaborative CDC study. The CDC notes that we can and must do more to combat antimicrobial resistance by investing in encouraging appropriate antibiotic and antifungal use, effective infection prevention and control, and accurate laboratory detection and rapid response. 🥽🔬 At DNA Electronics (DNAe), we believe it is incredibly important to bring sequencing into routine care to rapidly diagnose AMR infections – as that will enable better stewardship of antibiotics as well as better treatment selection for those patients. DNA Electronics (DNAe) is developing a world’s first rapid, sample to report integrated diagnostic sequencing platform with the mission to bring sequencing to the point of need so it can impact healthcare in different settings. DNAe’s AMR test for its LiDia-SEQ platform will help tackle the threats highlighted in this CDC report by enabling clinicians to rapidly identify bacterial infections, and select the appropriate antibiotic therapy. 🏥 https://lnkd.in/g6-Mff5T #AMR #sequencing #LiDiA-SEQ #diagnostics #antimicrobialresistance #antibiotics

Next generation sequencing company developing novel diagnostics for use at the point-of-need
About us
DNAe is a pioneering molecular diagnostics company developing solutions which enable rapid near-patient, real-time diagnostics. The innovative application of DNAe’s semiconductor technology in LiDiaTM diagnostic products allows us to combine powerful analytical capability and accurate results with speed and simplicity, while performing a range of genomic analyses –from highly parallel separate tests to powerful next generation sequencing (NGS). And in every scenario, it is a complete end-to-end diagnostic solution for a fast actionable result. DNAe’s initial focus is on a diagnostic test for bloodstream infections for use in the management and prevention of sepsis where speed can make the difference between life and death. By accurately and rapidly identifying what infection a patient has, the test will provide the clinician with the actionable information needed to help select the appropriate antibiotics to treat the disease. Founded in 2003, and headquartered in London, UK, DNAe has expanded operations further in 2015 with a clinical diagnostic development and manufacturing site in San Diego, CA. Our company employs over 100 people and we are always on the look out for exceptional talent. For more details, visit www.dnae.com. Or get in touch, we would love to hear from you. MP Craig Mackinlay's journey from #sepsis, quadruple amputation and a return to UK Parliament is truly remarkable. His courage in raising awareness of the issue and the efforts of The UK Sepsis Trust are as commendable. https://lnkd.in/e_HNQ2cj Att DNA Electronics (DNAe) we are committed to developing a platform for rapid diagnostics across a broad range of diseases. Our LiDia-SEQ™ platform can detect sepsis causing bloodstream infections in a matter of hours. This means faster diagnosis and treatment for those in need, which could significantly improve patient outcomes. It takes less than five minutes to learn the signs of #sepsis and potentially save lives. https://lnkd.in/ej9p9REq #sepsis #sespsisawareness #sepsissavvy #diagnostics #sequencing
