The Institute of Road Transport Engineers (IRTE) Skills Challenge Awards took place yesterday at the British Motor Museum in Warwick. The prestigious annual ceremony followed a competitive practical competition earlier this year, during which qualified and apprentice bus technicians from various transport companies performed a series of bodywork, electrical and mechanical challenges that were independently assessed.   We are delighted to share we won in the following two categories: ·      Outstanding Apprentice Team – Diego Duran Cudaros, Myles Harding and Tiago Da Silva. ·      Electrical Apprentice – Diego Duran Cudaros.   After a 40 year career in the industry, it was also heartwarming to see Gerry Fleming, our Engineering Training Manager, collect the Philip Margrave Memorial Award for Outstanding Achievement, not least because he worked closely with Phil for many years.   Chris McKeown, Engineering Director, said: “Congratulations to all who participated, but especially our winners who reflect the dedication, hard work and skills of the company’s engineering department.”

Go-Ahead London are thrilled to share that our colleagues have won awards at the London Bus Awards this evening. Over the past few weeks, we have been sharing the stories of our shortlisted nominees. Well done to Rachael Ayegba, Emmanuel George and Sutton Garage for being finalists. Sutton Garage has shortlisted for the ‘Best Vehicle Care’ category at the London Bus Awards. We were shortlisted by London Buses for this category, based upon their review of our results for key performance indicators.   Being shortlisted for this award is a testament to the Sutton team's hard work and dedication. Our Go-Ahead London Driver of the Year competition took place today at our Orpington Garage. The aim of this event was to decide which colleagues would be representing us in the National Final in Blackpool on Sunday 1 September 2024. The entrants had been shortlisted by the garages due to their excellent driving skills. At the competition, the entrants demonstrated their bus manoeuvring skills and were required to stop with precision at a number of stops. They were also judged in regard to their signalling/positioning and knowledge of the Highway Code. We are pleased to announce that the winners from today are: Michael Rowley, from Sutton Garage, who came 1st. In 2nd place was Joseph Jay, from Croydon Garage and taking third place was Terry Cook, from Henley Road Garage. Excellent driving skills are an important part of providing care to our customers. Congratulations to our winners and we wish you all the best in the finals later this year.

Meet Emmanuel George. Emmanuel George has been shortlisted in the category of ‘Accessibility Champion’ at the London Bus Awards. He has been with Go-Ahead London for five years and is a driver based at Morden Wharf Garage. Emmanuel has consistently shown that he understands the importance of adapting his customer service to all of our passengers. He has received many commendations from customers and carers, to thank him for appreciating their varied accessibility needs. Meet Efe Oyeghe. Efe is a driver at Camberwell Garage and has worked for Go-Ahead London for 18 years. Efe always strives to provide the best customer service and has been shortlisted in this category. He sets the perfect example to others, passing on his knowledge and experience to fellow colleagues. One commendation stated that “maybe this driver could do training for all drivers on issues of customer care. He is an excellent role model who deserves to be recognised".      Within the last year, Efe has received a staggering 59 commendations. We are very proud that he is a member of the Camberwell Garage and Go-Ahead London team. As one passenger wrote, he is a “real 5 star experience” in customer care. This #PrideMonth, we were pleased to gift a beautiful open top bus to Dulwich Hamlet Football Club to take part in the capital’s annual #prideinlondon parade. They are a local non-league football club, close to our Camberwell and Peckham Garages. Images show the open top bus passing through the parade. Also pictured is Izzy (Issac) Sasso a driver from Merton Garage, who was a part of the Pride parade celebrations on the day. Go-Ahead London enjoyed supporting the LGBTQIA+ community and being involved in the event.
