Last summer, JLR launched the Clean Clothes Campaign to relieve the burden of washing clothes – a task mainly borne by women and girls in socially deprived communities. We are proud to share that the campaign has delivered ten community solution washing machines in Diepsloot, Johannesburg.    Led by our Race Ethnicity and Cultural Heritage (REACH) Network, we collaborated with The Washing Machine Project on this yearlong initiative which will impact over 1,000 lives. The Divya washing machines, engineered by The Washing Machine Project and built by JLR's engineers, reduce detergent use, save 50% water, and operate without electricity, providing an economical solution in a community often facing these challenges.    This will also empower women and girls to fully enjoy their rights to education, work, and leisure, and protect them from physical and psychological impacts of hand-washing clothes.    It is incredible to see all colleagues come together in unison to work towards this common interest. Nomaswazi Nkosi, PR Specialist, JLR South Africa and Sub Sahara Africa shares, “The JLR South Africa team was proud to have been part of the project and deeply moved by how one person’s idea to develop manual washing machines in India, has had such an impact in an often forgotten community in Johannesburg, South Africa. Our hope is that these washing machines can help improve socioeconomic conditions in Diepsloot, and at the very least help make their lives that much easier.”     As part of the clean clothes campaign, JLR colleagues within the REACH network led other charitable initiatives such as delivering 100 food parcels to families in Diepsloot.    We have made incredible strides but there’s still more to do. Through our Engage for Good programme, we hope to build more long-term partnerships and foster employee volunteering to make a lasting positive impact in the communities we serve.   #Thewashingmachineproject #Cleanclothescampaign

As we begin South Asian Heritage Month today, colleagues from JLR have kicked it off by visiting three local schools in the West Midlands to mark and celebrate South Asian cultures and communities. This year’s theme ‘Free to Be me’ provided a powerful platform to encourage pupils to embrace their unique identities whilst appreciating other cultures. This impactful launch reached over 1500 people including pupils, parents and teachers. It was also a wonderful opportunity to inspire our next generation of engineers. Through a series of engaging workshops, 450 pupils learned more about JLR’s approach to manufacturing vehicles and our core objective which focuses on product innovation that meets the desires and needs of our clients. The team spent time with the children and proudly displayed a specially wrapped South Asian Heritage Month Range Rover Range Rover Velar. Gary Gentle, Headteacher of Bilston C of E Primary School in Wolverhampton said: "Children and teachers alike were thrilled to have JLR attend our school, helping us all to learn more about South Asian Heritage Month and their luxury vehicles was exciting. A huge thank you to colleagues from JLR who have inspired the next generation of future engineers."  This school engagement is part of JLR's wider commitment to have a positive social impact on the communities we serve and the world. #SouthAsianHeritageMonth #SAHM

Going right back to her childhood, with a passion for cars, watching motor racing with her dad. Ceri Bateman was proud to have worked on one of our most anticipated vehicles to come to market. The Defender tested Ceri and her team’s skills, balancing a components capability with the design elements. “It’s an exceptional car to drive, elegant and enjoyable.” She regularly visits universities using the Defender to inspire and educate the next generation of automotive creators. Graduating university as one of 3 women out of 120 students, Ceri is pleased that this is starting to change. Engage for Good is a key pillar of JLR’s sustainability strategy, encompassing our commitment to supporting vulnerable people, reducing inequalities and helping the communities in which we operate to prosper.     For decades, Defender’s embrace the impossible capabilities have been a symbol of this strategy, supporting humanitarian projects and charities around the world. And this year, we were delighted that Defender supported a new pilot Volunteer Scheme by Glastonbury Festival organisers, as Official Vehicle Partner to the famous festival.    The new initiative is dedicated to those facing social, cultural and financial barriers, and gave members of ten different charities and community organisations the chance to gain valuable work experience and training opportunities. This year, volunteers undertook vital roles, including catering and stewarding, with some working towards professional qualifications in food hygiene and outdoor work.     To show our support for these amazing volunteers, a fleet of plug-in electric hybrid Defender 110s were on hand to give them much needed respite when travelling to, from and around the 900-acre site and their campsites.     Find our more: https://lnkd.in/e_aev46R   #EngageforGood

Several of the key design components that make the Defender so recognisable are because of Mel McWhirter and her team. Tailoring the vehicle to suit all varying tastes and the global market requirements. Mel graduated with a Fashion Textiles degree but her passion for cars led her to pursue a different avenue to most of her peers. A huge part of her career was reinventing the Defender model. “It makes me so proud today to say that I look after Defender Materiality and that Defender is contributing so much towards JLR’s success.” Read more about Mel’s exciting career here at JLR. #Defender #WomenatJLR #CarMateriality https://lnkd.in/gsVYbbEh

We extended our long-term engineering collaboration with Cambridge-based audio innovator Meridian Audio Ltd last week to supply and develop high-performance in-car audio technology for our next generation of electric vehicles, across all of our brands.    The extension will enable Meridian’s specialists to input into the design of new models at an even earlier stage than before, enhancing the delivery of modern luxury electrification plans.    Currently, the pinnacle of Meridian in-car audio technology can be found on Range Rover models with the Meridian Signature Sound System. The 1600W system boasts 35 speakers – including two 20W speakers in each of the four main headrests – for the most immersive sound experience, refined serene cabin calmness and an Active Noise cancellation system monitoring wheel vibrations, tyre noise and engine sounds.      Collaborating since 2010, we are excited to further #Reimagine immersive audio design with Meridian and truly define the sound of luxury in our next generation vehicles.

Our #Reimagine strategy has set us on a path of transformation to become the proud creators of modern luxury.    We are pleased to introduce a new hero for our original British adventure brand Defender. New Defender OCTA, built at our plant in Nitra, is the toughest, most capable and most luxurious model in the unstoppable 4x4 family, taking the capability of our Defender 110 to an unparalleled level.    Our proud creators in Slovakia and the UK have worked tirelessly over the past three years to enter realms of capability and robustness that have never been explored before. A bespoke testing and development programme with more than 13,960 additional tests, including high-speed off-road and on-road durability had to be created for Defender OCTA.     The new high-performance, all-terrain hero will make its public and dynamic debut at the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed from 11–14 July. #Defender #OCTA
