Mergers and Acquisitions - themiddlemarket.com released an article recently exploring the talent shortage in critical roles in the financial services industry. 2021 and 2022 saw a big intake of talent. To remain competitive, businesses were offering an increase in pay. When the M&A market dropped last year, this resulted in a number of redundancies across banks all the way from the bulge brackets to smaller boutiques. As hiring slowly rises, employers are finding they are “struggling to hire the people that they want with the talent they would like to see”, especially at the associate level. The challenge at the moment is that there are “fewer candidates who’ve worked on full M&A deal”. The attached article explores the exploration of AI as a solution to this problem. Overall, it seems the financial services industry are cautious of replacing human talent with AI but are keen to explore how it may be able to assist. You can read more about this in the attached article: https://lnkd.in/eyxJiU3f If you are keen to explore opportunities or discuss your thoughts on the hiring market, reach out to one of our consultants for a confidential conversation. #hiring #financialservices #londonjobs #mergersandacquisitons

Bloomberg recently reported on J.P. Morgan's acquisition hunt for a private credit firm to “boost its presence in the sector”. Their asset management arm reportedly held talks to buy Monroe Capital LLC this year, although both teams ultimately decided to not pursue a deal. JP Morgan have been growing in the private debt sector for some time, having earmarked more than $10 billion of the investment bank’s balance sheet for direct lending. Earlier this year, the bank also suggested that the overall private credit market could be worth more than $3 trillion. You can read more about the bank’s growth in the debt sector here: https://lnkd.in/eW2Z9CQw If a career in the credit and debt sectors sounds interesting to you, reach out to one of our consultants to have a confidential conversation. #londonjobs #privatecredit #privatedebt #recruitment #financialservices

Yesterday, PERE reported on KKR's first quarter earnings call and how co-CEO, Scott Nuttall, spoke about how the firm is “looking to invest… into real assets”. Rob Lewis, KKR’s CFO, added that, “We’re seeing a really interesting opportunity in core and core plus real estate right now. There is just almost no core and core plus real estate capital out there, and we’re able to create really attractive unlevered returns, by leaning into that asset class,”. In Q1, the total capital invested in real assets by KKR was $5 billion, “with deployment primarily being driven by real estate equity in Asia and real estate credit in the US, as well as core-plus infrastructure”. You can read more about KKR’s investment in the real estate space, specifically with their latest opportunistic real estate fund, in the following article: https://lnkd.in/gJPcXde5 If a career in the Real Estate space interests you, reach out to the Head of our Real Estate desk Ieuan Handley for a confidential conversation. #londonjobs #realestate #financialservices #realassets

The Federal Trade Commission recently issued a final rule to “promote competition” by banning noncompetes nationwide. FTC Chair Lina Khan said, “Noncompete clauses keep wages low, suppress new ideas, and rob the American economy of dynamism, including from the more than 8,500 new startups that would be created a year once noncompetes are banned”. The FTC estimates the final rule will lead to new business formation growing by 2.7% per year, with earnings increasing by an additional $524 per year. This will impact all industries in the US, not only financial services, and we are already seeing businesses challenging the discussion. It will be interesting to see how this impact the senior leadership at some of the top investment banks in the US. You can read more about the ruling at the attached link: https://lnkd.in/g-C3FUs5 If you are based in the US and are looking to make a move in the investment banking space, reach out to the head of our US desk, Lee Moyce, for a confidential conversation.
