Will we see a UK CfD top-up in time for AR6? With inflationary pressure and supply chain disruption having cast a long shadow, the new The Labour Party Government has a real opportunity - and a narrow window to change the budget by 1st August - to put UK offshore wind back on a growth track. Speaking to S&P Global prior to the UK election, NARDAC Partner, Robert Bates, highlighted the challenge facing offshore wind developers in UK waters: "The economics of a lot of these projects are getting very, very marginal - there's a risk of competing away the gains that have been made.” But a little could go a long way, with think tank Ember reporting today that a 25% increase in allocation could help displace 12% of gas imports by securing additional offshore wind capacity. Battery storage projects are a new gold-rush, and, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA) attracted more investment that any other energy sector in 2023.
