Today Coram has published its annual Holiday Childcare Survey, revealing a 6% increase in holiday childcare costs and significant gaps in availability in England. Families face paying over £1,000 for six weeks' care for one child. This is why Youth Zones' affordable holiday clubs are so essential. Click the link in the comments to read more

We fund & build youth centres (called Youth Zones). Incredible spaces in the UK’s most economically disadvantaged areas.
About us
We’re OnSide, a national youth charity that believes all young people should have the opportunity to discover their passion and their purpose. We raise the funds to build state-of-the-art, multimillion-pound youth centres (called Youth Zones) in the country’s most economically disadvantaged areas. We train the amazing people that run them. More than 55,000 members make around 600,000 visits to Youth Zones every year. We offer continuing support to the national OnSide Network where they can learn and grow, share their stories and celebrate their success together. This is a unique partnership between young people and their community, local authorities and private business leadership, and a growing movement of supporters.

15 heads are better than 1! One of the ways we ensure ongoing support for the 15 Youth Zones in the OnSide Network is through our forums, bringing together colleagues from across the network to share learnings. Yesterday, Volunteer Managers met at WEST Youth Zone, both in person and online, for an insightful session led by Catherine Rose.
Brilliant time yesterday meeting with Youth Zone Volunteer Managers 😊 Volunteer Managers from across the OnSide network came together at WEST Youth Zone and online for our Volunteer Managers’ Forum. Some great discussions on strategic volunteer recruitment, Volunteers’ Week reflections and ways to take elements of Volunteers’ Week for all year round. A big thank you to everyone who took part and to the team at WEST for hosting us 💚 OnSide Hanako Ichii-Jones Angela Parkes Spoke Wintersparv Shineade Burton #volunteermanagement #volunteermanagers #volunteering

How do you keep teams connected and informed, especially when spread across different locations? One of the things we do is to have monthly briefing meetings, led by different teams each time. Thanks to Phillip Worthington for leading yesterday's meeting, updating us on the work happening to establish new Youth Zones. These catch ups keep us in the loop, and it's always interesting to learn what everyone is working on!

This research by the National Youth Agency shows the vital role youth centres play in young people's lives, helping them to develop life skills, make new friends, and benefit their mental and physical health and wellbeing. #youthwork #youthcentres
Young people we surveyed over the last 12 months accessed youth work primarily to: 🔷 Build their confidence 🔷 Make friends 🔷 Learn new things 🔷 Simply because they enjoy it Explore the findings at: https://lnkd.in/eyjbS3rG #YouthWork #YouthSurvey2024 #NationalYouthStrategy

We're really proud to be part of the #BackYouthAlliance, which brings together leading youth organisations from the UK to champion young people, and to find solutions to the issues impacting them. In the lead up to the election we came together for 'Youth Power: Election Hour' with hosts Alastair Campbell and Kwajo Tweneboa. It was inspiring to be in a room filled with young people passionate about making their voices heard on the issues important to them. What's one skill you learnt at a youth club? Too many young people are missing out on the chance to find and develop their talents. Our Generation Isolation research found that of those young people who go to a youth club, 83% said they've learnt new skills. We work to provide opportunities for young people, like Dominika, to learn vital skills and receive support from dedicated youth workers. https://ow.ly/u4Hl50SvS3Q

We 💚 this update, thanks for giving us an insight into your day, Catherine Rose - sounds like you had a warm welcome in the Bolton office! As an employer we're proud to offer a genuinely flexible approach to hybrid and flexible working to better support work-life balance.
Day in the life: Office Edition I'm remote based so it's actually quite rare for me to spend a day in the office but on Monday this week I ventured to the OnSide northern office in Bolton. I picked a good day for it, the sun was shining and it felt pretty summery - I still had my cardigan though – it’s North of England after all! I got some emails and planning done on the train journey in and I also ate my breakfast of overnight oats. Once I get to the office, I sit with some of my lovely colleagues who are also in the Network Support Team, and I fire through my to-do list for the morning. At lunch, I join colleagues Cath and Barbara for a walk round the local park (Barbara acts as tour guide) and on the way back into the office we get free strawberries! In the afternoon I had a few meetings: my 1:1 with my line manager, discussing next steps for a volunteer management system and a catch up with the Corporate Partnerships team. The journey back was interesting! All the trains were cancelled from Bolton so the first part of my journey was a bus instead… It was a relief when I got to Manchester and the trains to Sheffield were running – I did some more emails on the train and enjoyed the views out the window. #volunteermanagement #volunteering #volunteermanager #office
