Insulin safety week took place last week with a focus on the safe use of diabetes technology. We had the unique opportunity to learn about insulin management, how it affects users’ daily lives and which tools are in place to support them. PPP had the opportunity to talk with Shay Speakman-Brown, Head of Market Access at Dexcom, and Michael Lawrence, a dedicated Dexcom CGM user and a member of Dexcom’s Warrior programme. Michael, a type 2 diabetes insulin user, shared with us the invaluable benefits of relying on a CGM for his insulin management. Michael used to use a finger prick glucose monitor to check his blood sugar levels two to three times a week, regularly take metformin as well as other drugs, while rigorously managing his diet, exercise, and stress levels, often on his own account. Since switching to CGM, Michael’s life has been profoundly changed: “The CGM makes a huge difference, particularly in the evening after meals. When sleep follows, that’s the most concerning time. But now I have peace of mind and feel a sense of control in that there is an alarm that will sound if glucose levels are irregular. With the CGM I’ve got a much better chance at getting the doses right. The CGM also has an alarm which give some peace of mind and sense of control.” – Michael Lawrence Learn more about the benefits of CGM for individuals with type 2 diabetes insulin users in our latest article 👉 https://lnkd.in/dvsz2R9R #ThinkInsulin #InsulinSafetyWeek #CGM #Dexcom #DexcomWarriors

The profound impact of a cancer diagnosis, whether personal or affecting a loved one, is undeniable - but a cancer diagnosis does not have to be inevitable. In this long read, Primary Care Cancer Lead at East Midlands Cancer Alliance and Cancer Research UK (CRUK), Dr Ben Noble, calls for a shift in public health messaging towards prevention and the prioritisation of metabolic health. https://lnkd.in/gJ8n36Tb

🔍 Genomics insight of the day PPP’s recently published Global Genomics Insights report finds that to unlock the full potential of genomics, it must move beyond research and become implemented into the healthcare system. Achieving this requires the ability to share insights, experiences and credible health economic modelling, not just data.   Additionally, the integration of genomics into healthcare settings is very non-standard as there are no standards of interoperability. A lack of standardisation creates a fragmented operating environment, both globally and within territories, which could compromise or diminish the collaborative sense of genomics and what it is going to be able to achieve. New report: 'Harnessing technology to address the NHS workforce challenge'.   A recent report by Public Policy Projects sheds light on how AI and digital technologies could potentially improve productivity and reduce backlogs in our healthcare system. A roundtable discussion, chaired by our CEO, Dr Hatim Abdulhussein explored the opportunities and challenges in this area. The discussion identified five key barriers to adopting AI and digital technologies in healthcare: 📝Regulation: The need for clearer guidance and communication between regulators and innovators. 🤝Partnerships: The importance of collaboration between industry and healthcare providers. 🛜Practical barriers: Challenges in IT resources, and infrastructure. 💳Funding: The need for resources to support implementation and scaling, not just pilots. 🎓Upskilling: The importance of training and development for the healthcare workforce. Despite these challenges, there's significant potential for innovation in digital health and AI in the NHS. The report also suggests that GPs could play a key role in driving technology adoption in primary care. For those interested in learning more, the full report includes detailed recommendations for government, industry, and Integrated Care Boards. https://shorturl.at/0lSSy #HealthcareTechnology #NHSInnovation #DigitalHealth #AI
