For Azariah, helping the next generation become successful in what they want to do warms his heart.  "I feel so proud when I see the boys graduate on that last day. There are a lot of tears shed on both sides," Azariah said. "Seeing them walk out the school gates with their chests out, big smiles on their faces, knowing that we'll always be there for them." Azariah is a Director at the Clontarf Foundation in Australia. He works with young Indigenous men, encouraging them to stay in school and achieve their potential. We have partnered with the Clontarf Foundation since 2008 and are one of the leading employers of Clontarf’s Year 12 graduates, with students going on to join our business in many areas. 📽️ Listen to why Azariah's joined the Clontarf Foundation and the difference he is making in young mens' lives 👇 and read more about the Clontarf Foundation 👉 https://lnkd.in/gbR8fqAx #Partnerships #FindingBetterWays

Our Q2 results are in — we're growing with discipline in the materials the world needs for the energy transition, with improvements at our bauxite and copper operations. “Our operational performance continues to progress," Rio Tinto Chief Executive Jakob Stausholm said. "While there are still significant improvements ahead, we're beginning to see a step-change in production from our Queensland bauxite business following the roll-out of the Safe Production System. "Construction of the Simandou high grade iron ore project in Guinea is advancing at pace, the ramp up of the Oyu Tolgoi underground is on track and we are set to achieve first production from the Rincon starter plant by the end of the year." #FindingBetterWays #results

We’ve been working on a new approach to how we treat residue due left over from alumina refining — commonly know as red mud. Rehabilitating red mud is a ongoing challenge for the mining industry, but we are making progress. The research teams at The University of Queensland led by Professor Longbin Huang, have been working at alumina refineries in Queensland and the Northern Territory to scale up larger trials of a new eco-engineering solution. Field trials have shown it’s possible to rehabilitate extremely alkaline or saline bauxite residues this way within 2–3 years. 👉 For the full story: https://lnkd.in/gVRAvQ3U #FindingBetterWays

We strive to support the communities where we operate and improve lives by contributing to social and economic outcomes, all while respecting and protecting their connection to culture and nature. In Mongolia, we have completed renovations on a 10.2 hectare children's park in the capital, Ulaanbaatar. The sustainable green park now includes: 🎤 Community facilities, like an amphitheater. 🍃 A children's playground. 🛹 A skatepark. 💧 A rainwater harvesting irrigation system 💦 A pond. 🌳 Around 80% of the park is green space with 40,000 trees, shrubs and grass. We will continue to manage the park for another 2 years and then it will transition to the Ulaanbaatar City Administration. Check out the 📸 of the new park 👇.

Microscopes are explorers' secret weapon, from studying tiny life in the Amazon to revealing hidden mineral resources. 🔬⛏️ Rosa Vásquez Espinoza, Ph.D. uses her microscope to study the tiny organisms living near Peru's 90 °C boiling river, while our geologists rely on microscopes to identify valuable minerals essential for our modern world. "We use every clue we get, at all scales," says Alison Morley, Managing Director of Studies. This means connecting what we see under the microscope to what we see in the field, leading to new discoveries. #Geology #Exploration #Microscope

"When I was successful I was so grateful, I thought all my birthdays had come at once,” Nunda man, Garry, said. "I started with Rio Tinto on the 27th of January 1986 as a laborer doing odd jobs before I started driving the road trains carting salt and gypsum. I went on to operate other equipment like bulldozers, graders, loaders, harvesters and so on. During that time I did a stint at rigging, working the winches and handling the big ropes on the ships when they came into port at Cape Cuvier. I performed those duties for approximately 10-11 years before I was approached to apply for a leadership role as a supervisor. I was successful and went on to run my own crew for another 11 years. When I felt like a change from working in the salt and gypsum industry I decided to apply for a transfer as an operator up in the Pilbara (Western Australia) in Iron Ore. I started working at Tom Price in July 2007. The change to Tom Price was really good it gave me more opportunities to operate other equipment like haul trucks and Komatsu loaders, while still holding my role as a trainer and accessor. One thing I love is meeting new people and starting a conversation. I’m someone who cares about other people, so being a peer supporter is a good way to communicate and stay in touch. It’s about being a good listener, being there for people when they need you and checking in to show you care. People ask me why I’ve stayed so long, and I just tell them if you like what you do, you stick with it. I love what I do, and I also have a great passion for helping others to achieve their goals. That’s what keeps me going if I can continue to help others to succeed and be the best that they can."
