The Access to Justice Foundation is a registered charity established in 2008 by the Advice Services Alliance, Bar Council, CILEx and the Law Society to receive and distribute financial resources to help get free of charge (pro bono) legal assistance to those who need it most. The Foundation receives funding from: (i) The pro bono costs programme as the beneficiary of pro bono costs orders made by the courts in civil proceedings where the successful party was represented pro bono (ii) 'It's not just peanuts' campaign under which law firms donate their unclaimed client account balances; (iii) General donations. Any funds received are ploughed back into the pro bono community with the Foundation distributing them to advice services including Law Centres, CABx, and Legal Support Trusts.

I was often the first friendly face for those who had just arrived in the UK, seeking refuge and safety. Their anxiety was so real, and the language barrier made things even harder. 🤱 Later, I moved into child law, fighting to get funding for parents facing the possibility of losing their children. Some cases were devastating, with families torn apart for years because of false accusations. Seeing them reunited reminded me why fighting for justice is so important. 🤰 Then, I worked in employment law, where I saw how vulnerable workers can be. The simple phrase "I'm pregnant" could quickly lead to "you're sacked." ⚖ Legal aid was crucial in helping these people stand up for their rights. These experiences have shown me how powerful free legal advice can be. Calling all micro and small businesses (and those who provide legal advice and support to them)! As part of our work with the Solicitors Regulation Authority and The Law Society on the Regulators Pioneer Fund Phase 3 (RPF3) project, we are looking to conduct a series of workshops with key stakeholders to understand more about the barriers to users and providers in accessing and delivering online dispute resolution (ODR) services and discuss potential solutions to address these challenges. We want to hear about your experience in resolving legal disputes as a micro and small company or supporting micro and small companies to resolve their disputes. Key questions we’ll seek to answer during this workshop include: ❓ What is the impact of unresolved disputes on your business? ❓ What are your priorities when looking to resolve disputes in your business? ❓ What is your current experience of using non court based dispute resolution, and online dispute resolution services? ❓ What standards and guidance would you like to see enforced to enable and improve the development and implementation of ODR and deliver better outcomes for micro and small businesses? We are looking to increase the success of our 2022 Pro Bono grants programme when we awarded grants totalling £119,399 to nine organisations working to provide pro bono legal support where it was needed most. Some of the initiatives we funded were weekly pro bono clinics supported by a rota of solicitor firms, volunteer fee-earners and paralegals. Another charity sought to re-establish their employment law pro bono clinic following its closure at the start of the pandemic and this funding enabled them to engage with pro bono volunteers in the area to begin re-establishing the service. It’s here! The Massive Top 25 has landed. 🎉 The Top Massive 25 ranks the UK’s largest charity owned mass participation fundraising events from the last year. The report revealed that the largest 25 charity owned fundraising events collectively raised £132 million in 2023 - a 16% increase over the previous year. This growth was fuelled by the return of many major in-person events like Race for Life, Macmillan Coffee Morning, Movember and The Mighty Hike Series exceeding pre-pandemic participation levels. With inflation easing and disposable incomes forecasted to rise, the future outlook is promising. Over 70% of charities behind this year's Top 25 expect further participation growth in 2024, while 59% anticipate an increase in fundraising value.
