The 2023 All-in census by Advertising Association reported over 30% of Black respondents are likely to leave the industry due to a lack of inclusion and/or discrimination experienced. Our program is about creating opportunities for groups that have been historically sidelined, not fixing faults. We are immensely proud to announce in recognition of Women's History Month, we hosted our first sponsored event in partnership with BRiM (Black Representation in Marketing)! We held an intimate "In conversation with" Sophie Williams moderated by Dinah Williams, an incredible Author, Activist and friend. Discussing Sophie's newest book, "The Glass Cliff: Why Women in Power are Undermined and How to Fight Back". Sophie delivered an insightful and impactful keynote speech that explored what The Glass Cliff is, and the extensive research surrounding the phenomenon and highlighted recent examples of The Glass Cliff playing out. The Glass Cliff is best understood to be the phenomenon of women being appointed to leadership positions when a business is failing. Therefore, these women are not given an environment to succeed or thrive. It's crucial to understand this is a systemic issue and not the fault of an individual. Sophie and Dinah had a meaningful and moving conversation, discussing the effects of The Glass Cliff with intersectionality in mind and giving several solutions to overcome it. We would like to say a massive thank you to Natalie Trye for all your support in planning this event and for making the occasion run so seamlessly. If you would like further information regarding our future events, please connect and message our Partnerships Manager Toren Williams, to be added to our mailing list. Video credits to Albert Mensah. Yesterday our founder Dinah Williams was part of NatWest’s National Inclusion Week event, “Leading the Conversation on Creating Inclusive and Equitable Workplaces”. With the fabulous Blessing Mutamba moderating the conversation and alongside Yemi Jackson MBA, ACMA & Cüneyt Belber (Assoc CIPD, MCMI). The conversation revolved around how we all play apart in creating inclusive and equitable environments for us all to thrive, the importance of EDI being embedded in ALL stages of any project that we do and how the retention of marginalised/out-majority communities starts with the recruitment process and filters through all areas of business practices. It’s great for The Avenir Network to be be part of such important and impactful disscussions.
