Uterine fibroids are the most common cause of non-cancerous pelvic tumours amongst women in their reproductive years. Unfortunately, many don’t realise they have them whilst others suffer in pain and distress without knowing the root cause. To help raise attention and learn more about Uterine Fibroids, we interviewed Janet Kettels, Communications Consultant, listen as she shares her experience with being diagnosed and advocates for open conversations about this often misunderstood condition.    #WomensHealthUnmuted #ForWomenForHealth #UterineFibroidsAwareness #Theramex #UterineFibroids THX_HQ_EN_17886_v1

Last month, we hosted a The White Dress Project, Inc. event at our UK HQ to raise awareness for uterine fibroids week from the 18th-24th April. We asked our colleagues to don white outfits in solidarity with women who often shy away from doing so due to the risk of UF-related bleeding. Let's stand together with those affected by uterine fibroids and aim to increase the awareness around this critical issue. We need to break the silence and talk more about this condition to ensure women are informed, empowered, and receive the care they deserve. #Theramex #UterineFibroids #UterineFibroidsAwareness #ForWomenForHealth #WomensHealth THX_HQ_EN_17959_v1

An important question that is not asked enough: What is “normal” in women’s gynaecological health? At Theramex, we want to shed light on the normalisation of certain experiences and the way these symptoms may be downplayed in society and the healthcare system, like heavy bleeding, severe pain or pain during intercourse, as a normal part of being a woman. In fact, this can cause problematic delays in recognising the signs of a more serious issue at play, such as endometriosis or uterine fibroids. The normalisation of these experiences is also closely related to the stigma and taboos surrounding menstrual health and chronic pain in women, which make it difficult for women to feel comfortable openly discussing gynaecological issues with their healthcare provider. What’s more is the persistent presence of gender and “pain biases” in healthcare systems, where even acute menstrual symptoms are still dismissed as “dramatic”, “hysterical” or “an emotional overreaction”. In fact, studies show a lot of women are not taken as seriously as their male counterparts when complaining about acute and chronic pain. At Theramex, we are working to empower women to fight back against the dismissal of their symptoms and advocate for their health with the right resources. By being open and honest with their HCP, specialised diagnostic tests can be performed to distinguish between what is “normal” for each woman and what requires increased investigation in women’s gynaecological health. #Gynaecology #GynaecologicalHealth #Endometriosis #UterineFibroids #WomensHealth #Theramex #ForWomenForHealth THX_HQ_EN_17457_v1

Let's continue to recognise the significant hurdles that minority women still face in accessing healthcare, from financial constraints and language barriers to discrimination. At Theramex, we believe in the importance of addressing these challenges to achieve equitable healthcare for all. For instance, studies indicate that women from diverse backgrounds encounter unique challenges during perimenopause and menopause, with 45% of black and minoritised women experiencing inadequate support and culturally insensitive care. Additionally, minority women express difficulty accessing relevant educational resources tailored to their needs or find it challenging to understand the language used by healthcare providers, amplifying communication barriers. To Inspire Inclusion, we must advocate for culturally sensitive approaches, tailored solutions and inclusive educational programs and research initiatives that address these disparities head-on.  Let's work together to close the gaps in healthcare for all women, regardless of race, ethnicity or background. #IWD2024 #InspireInclusion #InclusiveHealthcare #Theramex #ForWomenForHealth #TheramexForWomen #WomensHealth THX_HQ_EN_17149_v1

As part of a truly inspiring interview, Glenda Bonde, Director of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion at Terrence Higgins Trust, sheds light on the vital role of inclusivity in the workplace for enhancing women's health advocacy.   Reflecting on the topic, Glenda remarks, “Sometimes when we're talking about gender and equality, for example, it's gender inequality from a very Eurocentric perspective, ignoring the other nuances around disability and mental health, ethnicity, race, and everything else.” Glenda emphasises the importance of taking an intersectional approach to combat this.  Today, we invite you all to join us in our efforts to #InspireInclusion. Let’s play our part in ensuring our workplaces foster inclusivity, recognizing and valuing the diverse experiences and backgrounds of all our colleagues. #IWD2024 #InternationalWomensDay #Theramex #ForWomenForHealth #WomensHealth THX_HQ_EN_17150_v1
