Another step forward for our #netzero journey 😀 🌳: The Solar Park at our German site is now fully installed! More than 14,000 solar panels have been mounted in Gronau, and once commissioned will ensure the flexible use of renewables at the site and support grid stability. It will also supply 20 charging points for employees' electric vehicles. The park could supply the equivalent of around 1,400 four-person households with electricity. #sustainability #energy

In a testament to the power of #nuclearenergy, last week it was revealed that the UK’s Heysham 2 power station has saved over 100m tonnes of CO2 since opening in 1988! This is estimated to have had the same effect as taking every car off of UK roads for almost 2 years! This impressive milestone once again shows that #nuclearenergy is key to achieving #netzero. On the UN’s #WorldYouthSkillsDay we mark the importance of equipping the next generation with the skills necessary to tackle the challenges of the future. This year’s theme - skills for peace and development - chimes perfectly with Urenco’s commitment to the peaceful application of #nuclear power, which we want to pass on to the next generation. Have a look at UNESCO’s graphic for some key figures. Learn more about today’s initiative below: https://lnkd.in/ddRHCa2T

"The United Kingdom needs an [unprecedented] programme of nuclear construction to reach net-zero", according to the Nuclear Industry Association. They state that the new government should work to reinvigorate investment and progress Sizewell C, Hinkley Point C, as well as the planned reactor in Wylfa and a fleet of SMRs. The Nuclear Industry Association estimates that if the UK is successful in delivering this programme and achieves 24 GW of #nuclearenergy by 2050, we will see a 75m tonne decrease in annual emissions and create 200,000 jobs. We've developed a range of improvements that could be made to pumps in Malawi to improve people's access to clean water. Supported by our partner Pump Aid, we came up with a number of prototypes including a household and irrigation pump, one solar-powered. Great example of what determination and hard work can achieve through engineering! Read more here: 👉 https://bit.ly/3WbmzVV #sustainability #netzero

Last week the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)'s Director General Rafael Grossi spoke to The World Bank on the importance of #nuclearenergy financing, calling on multilateral development banks to align themselves with the COP28 "new global consensus" and help achieve a doubling of #nuclear by 2050. "Doubling #nuclear capacity by 2050 will require a more than doubling of investments in nuclear power to $100 billion annually" is what Grossi said to his audience, urging development banks to help finance #nuclearenergy, so the world can meet climate goals by mid-century. Last week I visited EDF’s Flamanville 3 Nuclear Power station in France. The project is now progressing well: it is a very impressive site, the reactor is already fuelled and it is planned to start operations soon. Good luck EDF!
