Lift off!  We’re delighted to announce that Vertical has successfully flown our full-scale electric aircraft at Cotswold Airport, reaching our target speed of 40kts (just over 40mph or 70 kmh) through a series of rigorous, remotely-piloted ‘thrustborne’ test flights. The only full-scale eVTOL aircraft in the UK, the VX4 lifted, hovered, flew and landed, powered solely by the cutting-edge battery-powered propulsion system.  This is a very proud moment and a huge milestone for Vertical and our team, whose enormous dedication and hard work has made this possible. We’d also like to thank Civil Aviation Authority for their support over the flight test campaign, and our industrial partners for their shared belief and vision in the future of electric aviation.     We are planning further flight tests over the coming months which we will continue to share, as well as developing our second prototype aircraft which will feature even more advanced technology.   Watch the video below:   #VerticalAerospace #ThrustborneFlight #VX4

Today marks an important step towards making cleaner, faster and quieter travel a reality.   The Vertical team has been focused on delivering the new, world-leading VX4 prototype, which has been built alongside our leading aerospace partners - GKN Aerospace, Hanwha Aviation, Honeywell Aerospace Technologies, Leonardo, E-One Moli Energy and Syensqo - and includes our own proprietary battery and propeller technology.   Our most advanced prototype is the only electric take-off and landing vehicle (#eVTOL) designed, built, and assembled in the UK, and it includes: - Leading aerospace partners – 60% of the technology and components included on the latest aircraft are from world-leading aerospace partners, up from 10% on the previous prototype. - First use of battery designed and built for aviation – This battery and powertrain system, developed at our multi-million-pound Vertical Energy Centre, is the most powerful and lightest yet, has a rapid charge time and multiple backup power sources. - Next-generation propellers – Vertical’s new proprietary propellers designed specifically for eVTOLs are optimised for low noise and made of carbon fibre composite using a single-shot cure process to maximise integrity. Testing now begins at our Flight Test Centre in the Cotswolds – watch this space for more updates!

We firmly believe that the UK is the best place in the world to pioneer electric aviation, and the Civil Aviation Authority extending the scope of our DOA shows further confidence in Vertical’s engineering capability as we progress towards Type Certification. At the same time, we’re delighted that EASA - European Union Aviation Safety Agency and the UK CAA have agreed to collaborate on the certification of the VX4, applying common standards and working towards concurrent certification of the VX4 by both authorities. Our highly skilled Test Team has led a comprehensive programme of system and component testing using the latest technology to ensure our next-generation VX4 prototype is as safe and efficient as possible: - The Vertical Integrated Test Lab (VITL), also known as the 'Iron Bird', conducted 2,700 hours of testing across real aircraft hardware and flight control computers to verify how our proprietary technology performs alongside that of our aerospace partners. - Thermal, Dynamic and Endurance Performance verification of both our bespoke forward and aft propeller assemblies on our new high-performance Electric Propulsion Units. - More than 18 million, fatigue cycles on our second-generation propeller blades, demonstrating the durability of the design.  - 1.2 million battery cycle tests on our latest battery technology, proving durability and performance in flight environments. #VX4 #eVTOL #Aerospace

"Collaboration, pragmatism and the advantages conveyed by being based in the UK are all helping Vertical Aerospace to progress toward certification of its VX4 electric vertical-takeoff-and-landing (eVTOL) aircraft without having to spend as much as their competitors."    Great to the write-up of Michael Cervenka's discussion at Revolution.Aero last week. Michael covered a lot of ground, including how we are going through a mini certification program with the #VX4 for piloted testing. Read here for more: https://lnkd.in/dYDT3jXp
