Recent data taken from the Sportsmith English Academy Football Performance Staff Report revealed that 49% of S&Cs/Sports Scientists in English academy football don't have an accreditation. Only 17% had UKSCA accreditation. Only 5% had BASES accreditation. Only 8% had both (UKSCA and BASES). These are pretty shocking statistics. But can we be surprised? Based on my experiences as both a BASES supervisor and mentor, these are just some initial thoughts on why this occurs: - BASES supervised experience pathway takes too long. Most start off well in the first year but effort drops off and often staff move to positions where accreditation isn't required. - UKSCA accreditation seen as too hard and NSCA seen as an 'easier' option. - Most jobs in football are recruited via word of mouth or offline. Thus requirement for accreditations is diminished. - Accreditations are seen as a 'tick the box' exercise rather than a process of self improvement for some. Programme 1: Approach focus Morning RATE & MAG Approach focus session with @_neeldhaliwal_ Each session is measured for ‘readiness’ & neural fatigue . This determines the direction of the training session Day one , programme 1 of the 3 programme PDSF is focusing on bowling with a speed focus , 2% @pocketradar drop off and the approach zone Following a ‘controlled speed’ bowling tier we moved onto more power (magnitude) focused exercise. Practice doesn’t make perfect… Practice makes permanent. Are bowlers losing their ability to bowl fast due to repetitive training? It's a growing concern in cricket. The lack of understanding of the descriptors & attractors in fast bowling and the requirements to develop and maintain bowling velocity are causing the 90mph fast bowler to become the exception and not the norm. @pacelablimited has found a key differentiator in the use of the 1080 sprint to identify the KPI’s in bowling fast. This tool is used for profiling, technical change, and assisted and resisted load. With specific loads and consistent resistance, it can be implemented with little interference into technical execution. This ensures that technique is at the forefront of all performance enhancements. The 1080 has been a great asset in implementing technical change. By pinpointing the "sweet spot" where technique is at its optimum based on the mechanical capacity of each bowler, the resistance is used as a pendulum to cue the athlete with a specific goal. We gradually reduce the weight used until the athlete is then performing at 1-2kg. At each junction of the training phase the force is managed accordingly ensuring technical proficiency along with increasing the mechanical capacity of the bowler There is no point changing technique if it’s only to look good!! As football practitioners, optimising player recovery is crucial. A points-based system can be an effective strategy to encourage players to actively engage in their recovery routines. A recovery points system uses a scorecard approach where various recovery activities are assigned points. Players aim to reach a target score through activities like sleep, nutrition, cold-water immersion, foam rolling, and massage. 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: 1. 𝗜𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗢𝗻𝗯𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴: Educate players on the importance and usage of the scorecard. Use modern tools like apps for tracking. 2. 𝗦𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝘀: Assign points based on the effectiveness of recovery methods, with higher points for well-supported methods like cold water immersion. 3. 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗱𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Start with a blanket approach and gradually customize based on player needs and trust. How I Would Structure a High Performance Players' Training Week Leading Into a Tournament https://lnkd.in/esjb7BKc When it comes to planning your training week, whether you’re playing a tournament on the upcoming weekend or not should always be taken into account. It will affect how much you practice, how much strength & conditioning you do, how many sets you play, how much time you spend on technical work, and how much time you spend drilling. If you manage it right, the player will be feeling confident, rested, and motivated leading into the tournament. If you manage it wrong, the player might be feeling tired and unconfident leading into the tournament. Each day might bring unexpected challenges like rain, so the team needs to stay flexible as to what schedule is best for the player, but this blog provides a general outline for how I would structure a high performance junior or professional player’s training week leading into a tournament.
