Civil Rights and Social Action
I researched and wrote a paper arguing that domestic workers (house servants) in India should be considered full employees because their work liberates their employers to go to work. They are therefore productive members of the economy and should qualify for the minimum wage.

Economic Empowerment
I researched and wrote a paper on the feasibility of a pan-Asian minimum wage for garment workers. The idea matters because capital is international, and a country such as India or Bangladesh can find its garment workers suddenly unemployed if Vietnam, say, becomes a cheaper location.

Children
I volunteered on a project called "Water for Tanzania '98", raising money by working the first two months of the summer break. It was a small, local project to bring water to a local school. When we arrived, however, there was no school - the kids were being taught in the local church. So we built a two-room school as well as providing water to the new building.

FT interactive gas "tube map"
"Tube map" showing the flow of gas into and around Europe from the major producers. Graphic followed the scare over gas being 'turned off' from Russia to the Ukraine, and aims to show which countries would be most vulnerable to a repeat
-
FT interactive UK choropleth (heatmap)
-
Data-driven UK heatmap showing performance of individual schools by county. Rob Minto used my template to create the graphic again in 2010, which is why the page has his name at the top instead of mine.
