Want to get involved within an organisation that changes lives? We are seeking new Trustees to join our Board at Flexible Childcare Services Scotland. We provide accessible, affordable, responsive early learning and childcare, school age childcare, and additional support needs services. Our model saves money and effectively removes the barrier to working of being unable to source childcare. The children and young people we support are aged between birth and 18 years of age, more than half of the children and young people we support have additional support needs, some complex. Over half of families using our services fall into one of the priority groups highlighted in the tackling child poverty report. 84% of parents using our service are in work – either full or part-time employment. This is an important finding, pointing to the key role our work plays in supporting parents to remain in employment and contribute to/provide the household income. We have strong evidence of the impact of our work. Parents tell us they are better off financially, have improved wellbeing, and are able to better manage other family and caring responsibilities. Having launched just before Covid hit, survived and scaled the organisation during and post pandemic, and gathered robust evidence of impact. It’s time to de-risk, strengthen and grow. We have less than week to go to the UK General Election. All parties are, of course, playing fast and loose with data. But this example caught my eye. Education Secretary Gillian Keegan claims UK education standards have "soared" since 2010. Her evidence is the rise in UK rankings in the PISA tables. But two things can be true. The UK has rise up the rankings despite standards actually falling, or staying the same. In maths and science, UK students did worse in 2022 (the most recent data) than in 2010. In reading, they scored exactly the same. The UK has risen up the ranks because some countries have seen an even worse slump in pupil performance. But I guess "our standards are falling less quickly than others" isn't such a winner. https://lnkd.in/e2UGq9RA
