A system for authenticating articles comprising: an authentication manager for managing authentication information associated with the articles; a plurality of secure taggant reader instruments for reading machine readable taggants associated with the articles, the taggants including the authentication or related information, and an instrument configuration manager for secure on-line configuration of the instruments. Each taggant reader instrument is operable to securely process and send authentication information derived from a taggant to the authentication manager. The authentication manager uses the received authentication information to identify suspicious events. When suspicious events are detected, the instrument configuration manager is able to reconfigure at least some of the taggant reader instruments. Reconfiguration may also happen in the event of a product recall and/or taggant security compromise.

  • BRAND PROTECTION MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

    Issued US US2009307032 (A1)

A product management system for monitoring the movement of products through a supply chain, the system being adapted to receive data from reader devices that capture data associated with the products as they move through the chain. The captured data is used to generate an event record for each product, at each stage in the supply chain. These records are used, together with at least one model of the supply chain, to detect anomalous events.

  • System and method for preventing mis-fuelling of vehicles at service stations

    Issued GB GB2431632 (B); GB2431632 (A)

A system is disclosed in which the operation of service station fore-court equipment, such as a fuel pump (6), is controlled in dependence on an image captured from the vehicle (4) desiring to use the equipment. A camera (8), for example, captures the number plate of the vehicle while at the pump (6), or upon entry into the fore-court area, and compares the number plate with a database of registered vehicle information to determine the type of fuel the vehicle requires. The operation of the…

A camera (8), for example, captures the number plate of the vehicle while at the pump (6), or upon entry into the fore-court area, and compares the number plate with a database of registered vehicle information to determine the type of fuel the vehicle requires. The operation of the pump is inhibited if the wrong fuel is selected, thereby avoiding mis-fuelling of the vehicle and the ensuing damage to the engine. Instead of the number plate, a sticker or other visible identifier may be used.

  • Investment system

    Issued US US2005240511 (A1)

An investment system for projects seeking funding, such as pre-trading enterprises, is disclosed. The system comprises a share allocation facility for allocating shares to a project on the basis of the funding that they require, and a stock exchange for trading shares in the project. During development of the project, the project is required to meet a number of development goals, and its progress through each of the development goals is audited. The results of the audit are published and may…

  • Driver assistance system for a vehicle

    Issued US US5765116 (A)

A video camera or equivalent sensor is mounted on a vehicle and used to detect the lane markings on the road (usually the white painted lines). An associated signal processor (11) estimates the vehicle's lateral position in relation to the lane markings. An electric motor (4) coupled to the steering mechanism (1) is used to provide a torque input to the steering which may either assist or oppose the steering torque from the driver. The processor (11) is designed to assist the driver to maintain…

An electric motor (4) coupled to the steering mechanism (1) is used to provide a torque input to the steering which may either assist or oppose the steering torque from the driver. The processor (11) is designed to assist the driver to maintain the vehicle's lane position by holding the vehicle at a set-point using a biasing torque. This simulates the effect of the lane being cambered upwards towards the lane edges. However the driver is able to override or cancel the effect if the driver applied steering torque exceeds a prescribed torque threshold.

The system employs a Doppler Microwave radar sensor (2) arranged to project radiation at a road surface ahead of the vehicle (1) and includes means for detecting radiation reflections of which the carrier frequency is amplitude modulated according to the surface irregularities. An electronic circuit differentiates the modulated signal to produce a control signal representative of said surface condition and a controller (14) receives said signal and modifies the operation of the vehicle system in response thereto.
