Some informative and thought-provoking conversations at the recent Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Global Electrical Safety Seminar - this time, tackling the topic of arc flash, a rapid and dangerous release of electrical energy due to an arcing fault. Our Electrical Technical Manager, Martin Sampson EngTech TMIET, and Senior Electrical Consultant, George White MIET, had the privilege of attending the event at the prestigious IET headquarters on the banks of the Thames.
The seminar brought together an array of experts, from equipment manufacturers to Renewables sector engineering bodies, plus an arc flash survivor who provided invaluable insights into the real-world impact, serving as a powerful prevention and preparedness reminder.
Fortunately, Bureau Veritas electrical surveyors are once again ahead of the curve, wearing arc flash protective PPE as a standard part of their daily workwear - a practice that is not yet the industry norm.
As we look ahead, we are excited to continue our learning journey, eagerly anticipating future IET events that will keep us at the forefront of electrical safety best practices. By staying informed and actively engaging with the industry, we can be better equipped to protect our teams and ensure the wellbeing of all those who entrust us with their electrical needs.
