In discussing Dreams from My Father, Nobel Laureate Toni Morrison has called Obama "a writer in my high esteem" and the book "quite extraordinary." She praised "his ability to reflect on this extraordinary mesh of experiences that he has had, some familiar and some not, and to really meditate on that the way he does, and to set up scenes in narrative structure, dialogue, conversationall of these things that you don't often see, obviously, in the routine political memoir biography. It's unique. It's his. There are no other ones like that." Time Magazine listed the book on its top 100 non-fiction books written in English since 1923.

Hardcover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Signed by author on title page. No inscription, signature only. First edition stated, with numberline beginning with 2. (Random House's convention at the time was to indicate first printings with the statement "First Edition," with numberline beginning with 2, which is how this copy reads. Second printings would drop the First Edition statement.) Ex-library with four identical library stamps only one of which is prominent. The library stamps are on pages 93, 153, 273, and the prominent one is on the title page (same page as signature). No stickers and no other markings noted. DJ appears to have had one sticker carefully removed from spine, leaving a nearly invisible shadow. DJ is unclipped and presumably has been protected by mylar for its entire life, as it is conditioned as very good. Book has some skewing, edgewear to bottom of boards. Binding remains tight, but has clearly been read and handled. There is a 1/4" x 3/4" water stain affecting the first eight leaves, which includes the signature page. A flawed copy but deeply discounted This signature was personally obtained by me at a campaign event in Kansas City, Missouri on 10/18/08. Photos of event included. Signed by Author(s).
