Only For The Week

Rate this book
You are cordially invited to the wedding of Amerie Cross and Arnold Hightower.

And now a toast from the maid of honor, Janelle Cross!

Hi everyone, thank you for being here.

Some of you may know me as the sister of the bride.

Some of you may know me as the ex-girlfriend of the groom.

But I'm willing to bet none of you know me as the woman secretly sleeping with the best man.

I am.

I know, I'm just as surprised as you.

It was only supposed to be for the week; but every kiss, adventure, and stolen moment with Rome Martin feels like it could last forever.

Oh well. What happens in Tulum stays in Tulum.

Right?

Listen!!!!!!! Rome made it to the book bae list 6% in when he was described as having “tree trunk thighs” because do y’all know the horse power behind something like that!!!!! I mean the stroke alone 🤤😮‍💨……. Whew let me pull it together. I digress……🤭🤭

When I tell you I ATE this book and licked up the crumbs!!!! Think of your absolute favorite dish prepared by your absolute favorite person…. Yeah that’s EXACTLY what this book gave!!! I meannnnnnnn this was top tier storytelling, that keep me engaged from page one to the very end!! This was my first read by this author and sis, 🗣️ COME GET YOUR FLOWERS 💐

Janelle, 🗣️SIS!!!!! Couldn’t have been meeeeee!!! Imagine getting a text from your ex letting you know he’s proposing to your SISTER!!! 🤔 EXACTLY because WHAT SISTER?!?! Janelle took the Michelle Obama high road in this book because it would’ve been on SIGHT!! Every single timeeeeeee! Janelle was a successful OB-GYN that had her ish all the way together. She had a habit of putting everyone’s happiness before her own and this was evident during the planning process and weeks leading to her sister and her ex’s wedding! When they decide to spend the week before the wedding festivities in Tulum, Janelle had no idea that in the midst of her sister running her raggedy, she’d simultaneously have the best week of her life.

Rome, step to the front of the class sir and bring ya mama because I need to personally kiss the crown and thank her for creating you!!! Rome was next level book bae and I just need to know one thing, are you for sale and where can I purchase one of you! Rome is the best friend of the groom and despite avoiding her throughout the course of their (Janelle and the grooms) relationship, he is now tired of fighting the inevitable and is ready to give Janelle the best week of her life. The way this man effortlessly catered to Janelle and fed into her interests and desire, the nïgga could’ve had all my yes’s too!! Here boo take all the yes’s and my panties while ya at it 🤭

I could literally go on forever about how amazing this book was but I’m going to stop here and encourage you to make reading this one a TOP priority! You’ll laugh, you’ll want to smack a few folks, but one thing you won’t be is disappointed!!

Just read it!
I can’t explain to you how happy this book made me, if you love man falls first, man obsessed, words of affirmation, acts of service!
He literally rents a yacht for the day for her because she was overwhelmed with her sisters wedding planning and just wanted a day to read by the water.
Rome is now one of my top book boyfriends!
Its set in Mexico so would be the perfect vacation read (even though I read this at home, I could visualise everything perfectly)

I loved the discussions about Janelle being a people pleaser even at the expense of her own happiness, just because someone is family doesn’t give them a right to disrespect your boundaries and walk all over you. It was a lesson I myself had to learn a while ago, the art of saying no.

I hope everyone else gets their own book because I’m trying to read Evie & Jalen’s love story, with his fine single dad, retired NBA ass.

I have officially found my second favorite book of 2023. I cannot express how much I absolutely loved Only For The Week. When I started this book, I immediately fell in love with Janelle. I mean, what’s not to love about her?!!! She’s a young black female living life unapologetically on her terms, she’s an OB/GYN looking to open a practice that caters to women of color, (specifically black women), she has a strong circle of friends who uplift each other, and she’s thickalicious and curvy packin’ a shyt ton of confidence. Janelle was that bytch and she knew it. But, my love for her quickly faded into frustration. Janell took the phrase, “When they go low, we go high” to the extreme. Putting everyone else’s needs ahead of her own became commonplace for her even when it wasn’t deserving.

Her older sister, Amerie, is engaged to her ex. Now, this isn't an issue for Janelle considering she’s the one who broke up with Arnold. She realized six months into their relationship, they were not well suited for one another and she was grown up enough to see that he and Amerie were much more compatible as a couple. Amerie, on the other hand, can't get past her own insecurities to see Janelle is no longer checkin’ for Arnold. She's made up this whole scenario in her head that has her believing her sister wants her ole boo thang back and, because of this, commenced to making Janelle’s life miserable the entire time she planned her wedding. The constant nitpicking, insults, backhanded “compliments”, and just out right disrespect was relentless. Amerie went out of her way to hurt Janelle anyway she could.

Rome Martin pulled up and said, “not taday” and not on his watch. The way this man became Janelle’s peace and came to her defense without question was admirable. Rome had already been secretly attracted to Janelle when she was dating Arnold so, protecting her from Amerie’s wrath was an automatic given. “Amerie?” She turns at the sound of my voice. “I think the words you’re looking for are thank you. I’m sure you didn’t mean to come off rude as f*ck to your fiancé, your sister, and your friends. It’s okay, shit happens. It’s been a stressful morning, so we can just accept your thank you and move on. Right, y’all?” Come on Rome! It’s the BDE for me. This man had me ready to throw my panties at my iPad. When I say he worshipped Janelle, he worshipped her. Rome catered to her every want, need, and desire. If girlfriend even sneezed the wrong way, he was right there to wipe her nose. Rome Martin more than earned his status as top tier book bae.

I absolutely adored Only For The Week. If I could give it 10 stars I would. I laughed, I cried, I gave Janelle and her mama more than a few side eyes, and I most definitely called Amerie all kinds of bytches and heauxs. Trust me, she deserved it. The storyline, the character development, and plot development were A1. There just aren’t enough positive things I can say about this book. This was my first read by Natasha Bishop and to say sis impressed me would be an understatement. She is wicked with the pen and I look forward to reading more from. Matter of fact, lemme go stalk her catalog right damn now.

DNF @ 35% because there ain’t no way we actually speak like that irl

The concept was amazing; destination wedding, the portrayal of young black love, messy relationships with loved ones and friendship throughout your twenties to 30s I adored.

On the flipside what made me DNF this book was the presence of over exaggerated and stereotypical dialogue making the book overall just cringey.

Two things took an absolute beating here:
1. Janelle’s kewchie
2. Janelle’s enemies

Call Rome a pro boxer, if you will. Love that for her.

4/5 ⭐️

- This book was so good that I found myself giggling, gasping, and smiling throughout the entire book. The dialogue felt so real and the conflicts weren’t ones I have seen in many books which was really refreshing. I hope this author makes more books about the friends in this group because the found family in this story was too good.
- I was literally SWOONING over the love story!! The way he was so intentional about their time together and taking care of Janelle, I literally could scream! :) I definitely plan on reading more books by this author.
- The sister irritated my soul and I love the character growth as Janelle learned to love herself & choose herself. If you’re a book girlie, you’ll really love this one because there are some book references in the story that made reading it even more fun!

ROME!

This was my first read by this author and I absolutely LOVED IT! Rome was just that n*gga! There wasn’t one thing I didn’t like about him. If Janelle didn’t give him her yes he couldn’t certainly have mine!

I just loved how intentional he was with her. I loved how he payed so much attention to her and her mental and just knew what she needed.” Before she asked for it. The BDE just leaped off the pages.

Amerie and their mama were trash to me. How do you punish someone for having it together and not needing you how YOU felt they should need you? That’s asinine. And Arnold… sir go to hell.

THE BEST ROMANCE I'VE READ THIS YEAR. Don't worry, I plan on re-reading this one this year so a better, more thought out review will be coming before the year ends. In the meantime, if you haven't picked up this book, I need you to pick it up now!

Janelle x Rome

*Another one*
This story was not at all what I expected. Though I got something much much better, what I expected was a little feel-good story about a vacation hook up between two professionals and the shenanigans they got into before returning home to real life. But the deep conversations, the laughter, the banter, the friendship, the family, and the drama I got instead were refreshing.
Janelle Cross was exactly how the Good Lawd intended it to be: Black, beautiful, confident, thick and curvy, with waist beads, thigh chain, and an OB/GYN who wants to cater to women of color, especially black women. She was also the MOH in her sister's wedding…to her ex 😬
Rome, Rome was just plain sexy. He is big, tall, bearded, sexy, and a game developer. He's also attentive, caring, oh, and sexy. He's the best man at the wedding and the best friend of the groom. It sounds messy.
They're at a destination wedding in Tulum. Everyone's stressed, tensions are high, especially for the bride who never missed an opportunity to lash out at the maid of honor. So what are Rome and Janelle to do? Be each other's stress reliever secretly. But, not without the drama. It definitely followed them into Mexico.
Arnold left a bad taste in my mouth. Idk if we ever gonna be cool. I don't have anything nice to say about Amerie and her mother, so I'm going to keep quiet.
But, Bishop, this can't be a stand-alone. The way you left all these loose ends with Micah, Dani, Christian, Jalen, and Evie…No! I don't want to have to use my imagination. We want stories, installments, and series.
This was a great read, and I loved every page from 1st to last. It has amazing witty banter, laughter, and family and safe dose drama. This author has made her way up very high on my favorite list. One thing I love about her is that when she tells her stories, she somehow always manages to make me feel like I'm there. Like I'm part of the friend group, part of the inside jokes.
Get into her catalog ASAP!

OH MY GOD THIS WAS SO GOOD!!! Maybe the best romance I've read so far this year?! Clearly I need to try more from Natasha Bishop.

Janelle is headed to her sister's destination wedding. She's the maid of honor and her sister is marrying her ex! And being a bit of a bridezilla. To take the edge off, she agrees to a one week fling with Rome, a very attractive groomsman. But their chemistry in the bedroom turns into much more than she bargained for...

Only for the Week is a contemporary Black romance with lots of external drama/conflict and a relationship that is internally so beautiful with the heroine being treated like a queen, and rightfully so. It's also one of those rare gems that is at once extremely sexy and deeply emotional/swoonworthy. I cannot say enough good things about it and will be pushing it on people! The audio narration is great too, though the male narrator has such a deep voice I sometimes had to slow it down a little from my normal high speed to catch everything he said. Loved this though! I received an audio influencer copy from Libro.FM, all opinions are my own.

Only For The Week has a wonderful balance of friendship, new love, and family strife. Im assuming Janelle is going to a destination wedding and will find love like all the stereotypical stories, so I wasn't prepared to learn that she was maid of honor at her sister's wedding to her ex. Rome the night shining armor who is so attentive to details. I wasn't expecting this tale to be like this. The thing Janelle needed, he just knew. The ex, her mother, and her sister were simply BOOO BOOO; I didn't care for them. I do want to follow up on all of the others since I was sort of more interested in what was happening with everybody else.

F my ex, my sister can keep that 🥷🏾

The synopsis of this book grabbed my attention immediately because the messiness of it all!! Your blood sister engaged to your ex- boyfriend and asking you to be the maid of honor— audacity had to be on sale two-for-one. The author delivered a story that is so romantic and complete, which is impressive because Rome and Janelle’s story could have gotten overshadowed by the drama of Janelle’s ex relationship and her complicated familial relationships.

I would describe Rome and Janelle’s love as generous, passionate, protective, thoughtful, open, abundant so much so that it overflows. Rome is penned in way that makes him move to the top of the book boyfriend list immediately.

This is easily one of my favorite reads of the year, I highly recommend this book.

Janelle & Rome are EVERYTHING

Natasha Bishop wrote the hell out of this book! I couldn’t put it down. Everything about Rome and Janelle had me hooked from the very beginning. The love and tenderness that man has for his woman? Perfection. The smut? Out of this world. Like don’t even get me started on that black out club scene. I just finished this book, and I’m already sad I won’t ever be able to experience it for the first time again.

This was a cute, fun read. Tulum setting, with lots of drama and mess, great friendships, but it was a bit too insta-lovey for me. Rome is a dream man and you can’t help but swoon for him! But I honestly struggled to get through this.

Mhmmm now this is what I want in a summer romance! Only for the Week is such a fun read, perfectly crafted with humor, heat, romance, and drama. Janelle and Rome were so good together and I loved how he was determined to keep her happy and protected from her crazy family. I mean the man literally charters her a yacht so she can read her book on the water and then proceeds to start the book so they can discuss it after!?!?! Beyond the characters, the romance and steam were so breezy and fit the fast pace so well, I loved how the drama added to the story and gave the book some plot. While this was pretty insta-lusty, I appreciated that Janelle took her time to solidify their relationship and get everything with the drama wrapped up. I'm going to have to binge Natasha Bishop's whole catalog now... oopsie😉

Believe ALL the hype about this book!

It’s a vacation romance with some necessary discussions sprinkled throughout about learning to prioritize yourself and toxic familial relationships. I love how Rome didn’t hesitate to support Janelle physically, mentally and emotionally. I’m still swooning over their yacht date 😭

Only for the Week was my first Natasha Bishop book and it was so good! I loved the hero and heroine, the scenery, and the vibes of this book. Janelle and Rome’s romance was a bit forbidden and a lot of fun. I will definitely be picking up more from this author in the future!

Only for the week was such a good book- I had a time reading about Rome and all his BDE gloriousness. That was a man! I liked the premise of the story. I could see Rome and Janelle’s chemistry coming a mile away. I hated how her mother and sister tried to gaslight her experiences and disregarded her feelings but she had a man stepping 10 toes behind her. Whew!👏🏾

Natasha is becoming an automatic one click author for me. This book delivered in spades y’all. There were several elements for me that I need to talk about. First of all, Rome. What. A. Man. The way he instantly fell for Janelle. They way he anticipated her needs and was super sensitive to what she was feeling as far as how her crappy sister treated her and then later we see her mother “wiping her feet” on her. Certain parts really hit home for me and things that I’ve personally had to deal with concerning my own parents. “Sometimes the people that are supposed to love you the most are the ones who hurt you the worst. They don’t get a pass just because they’re family. Choose yourself.” It took me long enough, but it’s been 10 years ago now since I decided to choose myself and tell them buh bye 👋🏽.

Anyhoo, back to the story. Rome and Janelle. These two were perfection and I keep coming back to Rome, but honestly yall, he was perfect. I mean, he wrapped her damn hair!! Natasha is so good at making her heroes praise givers. It does me in!!

“This kiss digs itself deep within my bones and plants its roots in my bloodstream.” Pure fire 🔥

This book was an easy 5 star read. Nat just hits everything right!!

4.5 ⭐️ Rome 👀🫣👏🏾😬🥰🥰 is some top tier work, okay!!!?? Books like this, & seeing black women be treated like this in real life is what made me fall in love with romance!

Janelle said that he had ruined the kitty for anybody else, when in all actuality he ruined her period for anybody else because they belonged together!!

To finally get to the root behind why Amerie acted the way she acted toward Janelle was eye opening! Janelle was so unbothered but Amerie was the one who thought she did something wrong, that thing was powerful! I was happy though when Janelle finally stood up for herself! I thought that Janelle forgot that God blessed her with a voice box the way she never spoke up when something bothered her! However when she finally did, 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 yup!!! & Rome was such a solid guy, no matter what went on he was standing firm with his woman!!!

A hit is a hit!! Standing ovation Natasha 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
