Fixed Calculations and Other Level of Detail Functions

Hello fellow Lookers,

I am relatively new to using LookML and I am coming from a long time working with Tableau and their calculated fields.

Is there an easy way to incorporate fixed calculations and other LOD functions when constructing views?

The best route I’ve found for constructing fixed calculations is to created a derived table view, then join that view into my explore. If that is the best way to accomplish these types of calc, that is fine, but I have to imagine that there is a better way.

Seems wasteful to create a table for one dimension / measure.

Any and all advice is welcomed!

Same here. I'm trying to find tableau LOD equivalent function in LOOKER.

If you find any solution please share. Hope someone respond here

There is a very simple way to do something like this using drill fields on your dimension - the approach is outlined in this article here.

Another approach you could use to do something like this would be to use the group_item_label parameter in the LookML definition of your view. This would allow you to create a heading in the field picker like 'location', and when selected by the user it would unfold and offer the different levels of detail you are interested in (e.g. 'country, region, city').
