HL7 Certified Educator Program

The HL7 Certified Educator Program (CEP) seeks to recognize educators who demonstrate excellence as both HL7 instructors and HL7 subject matter experts. 

The CEP evaluates applicants, trains educators and supports their need to maintain their expertise. Some certified educators may serve as faculty for HL7 International or may find additional teaching opportunities.

Certification Criteria

An educator can earn the HL7 Certified Educator (HL7CE) designation by meeting the criteria below.

An HL7 Certified Educator:

  • Either has an "Individual" membership of the HL7 International organization, or is a member of an HL7 International Affiliate organization, or is employed at a company that has an active "Organizational" HL7 International membership or an active HL7 International Affiliate membership.   • Adheres to HL7's Code of Conduct
  • Holds the current related required certification that is obtained by passing the HL7 International exam(s) in one or more subject areas of HL7 v2, HL7 CDA, or HL7 FHIR
  • Demonstrates effective online and in-person instructional skills via prior teaching experience in the relevant subject area (HL7 v2, HL7 CDA, or HL7 FHIR)
  • Continues professional education and development
  • Properly uses HL7 Certified Education materials including presentation templates, marketing collateral and learning materials
  • Has completed the HL7 Train the Trainer Course

 

How to Apply

Supporting documentation will need to be submitted with an application. These documents will include:

  • a resume or curriculum vitae including details of your teaching experience of HL7 standards
  • a copy of the highest academic degree obtained
  • statement of your teaching philosophy which includes your conception of teaching and learning, a description of how you teach and why you teach that way
  • prior formal course evaluations/surveys of your teaching by your students of the courses you taught, combined into one document
  • copies of any additional relevant HL7 educational certificates (of attendance or completion, etc.) combined into one document
  • three (3) professional references with name, email and phone number

The approval will be valid for three years. At the end of three years, the trainer is expected to resubmit the application. Certifications will be tracked through a certification directory hosted on HL7.org.

CEP Fees

Fee payment will be requested after initial application is submitted. 

  • Initial Application (renew every 3 years): $400 USD
  • Annual Fee (years 2 & 3): $200 USD

Low income country* residents will receive a 40% discount. MIddle income country* residents will receive a 20% discount. 

*Low and Middle Income Countries as determined by The World Bank.
