And again, time and again you will come across someone who will astonish you but that would be an exception and not the norm.

When we are searching and head hunting for any specific, niche and in-demand skills and roles, we need to go for the extra mile. In my experience, joining certain skill groups on LinkedIn, looking for certain universities, communities, target companies and network makes the best. For AI, as it is a growing skill and industry is expanding into the domain the approach needs to be different and effective. AI professionals will look for creating impact by contributing towards advanced projects, new age technologies and solve problems which are real-time and challenging.

This approach ensures that the developers are familiar with the technology. It is inadvisable to rely solely on CVs as they may not fully reflect the candidate's abilities. It is important to identify individuals with the right mindset. While skills can be acquired, a positive attitude is key.

As the AI skills demand is in surge and there are more new roles coming up like GenAI, AGI, MLOps, AGI Research/ Applied scientist, etc. It becomes necessary to craft clear and concise job descriptions to attract the relevant and right talents. We need to be clear with mandatory and good to have skills and everyone cannot have all the skills mentioned. Include tech skills like ML algorithms, coding, proficiency programming ,language, AI frameworks. Highlight the key contributions, soft skills like problem-solving, critical thinking, communication, strategic thinking, etc which are crucial for AI projects.

It is essential to provide growth not just through investment in external training and enrichment, but career pathways that challenge and allow team member growth in the areas they desire to cultivate. This not only lands, but retains talent.

It is essential to create a vision for employees that outlines the potential for growth within the company and the value of the role. This should emphasise the importance of the individual to the future of the company. While financial incentives are important in the short term, they are not a long-term solution. If employees feel valued and have the opportunity to develop their skills, they are more likely to remain with the company.

Additionally you can attend community hosted hackathons to find talent. There are opportunities to find a broad mix of skills from digital innovation strategists, citizen developers, pro code developers, data scientists and more.

You want your team to have a very strong understanding of leverage. This ranges from leverage at the organization level, the individual level, and the team level. AI is only as useful as the problem it is used to address, and you want that team to have a good understanding of the relative impact of solving different problems. You can't do everything, so you need to pick the right things. Understanding leverage is how you build a stronger understanding of which problems are worth solving, whether macro or micro.
