How can you determine if you're ready for a leadership role?

Leadership is a crucial skill in any industry, but especially in payment systems, where you need to manage complex processes, diverse teams, and changing customer expectations. Here are some questions to ask yourself before you apply for that promotion or seek new opportunities.

1 Assess your skills

Do you have the technical knowledge, the communication skills, the problem-solving abilities, and the emotional intelligence to lead others effectively? You would need to look back in the past. Think about situations where you've taken the lead, made decisions, or influenced others. What were the outcomes? Also it's important to identify your leadership strengths (communication, decision-making) and areas that need improvement (conflict resolution, delegation). One way to get this information is by asking for feedback from the team reporting to you, your peers, superiors and other stake holders. Secondly consider taking personality tests or leadership style assessments (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, DiSC) to gain insights into your leadership preferences and tendencies.
