What do you do if you're a retired public speaker looking to give back to your community?

I believe one of the ways to give back to your local community is through volunteering. Look for someone who is struggling with public speaking, and share your insights on how you were able to navigate through that hurdle. Schedule a weekly or biweekly follow-up and see how your mentee is doing. Through mentoring you will be able to stay up to date with the current trends which also leads to fulfillment in life. Knowing someone else’s became better because of you is one of the most fulfilling things in life.

Become an advocate. Most of our daily experiences are governed by state laws. If there is an issue or topic of interest that you have experience in, join a cause and let your voice be heard. Testimony for a bill is very valuable from those with lived experiences. For you, it is a chance to be active in something that you value.

Educating people about their rights and ensuring homeowners/residents are being treated fairly and equitably is a rewarding mission. With over two decades in the HOA Management Industry, I've learned so much and enjoy sharing the knowledge. I also feel like it is important to provide people with realistic expectations within the bounds of their time constraints, funds, community/neighbor involvement, and contracted management team. I also think it is important to remind people to demonstrate and seek positive intent in all interactions. A big part of what I have done over the years is conflict resolution and feel that I have a lot to share with someone interested in improving or honing their skills.

Teaching a workshop or course on a topic you've mastered is a powerful way to use your public speaking skills for good. By sharing your expertise in places like community centers, libraries, or online, you can inspire, educate, and create value for others.

Your Purpose doesn't end when you retire. Find opportunities to teach or coach young public speakers. It may be a workshop or course. It may also be an appearance at a school's Career Day. Large event or small, your dedication and expertise will inspire someone.

I have started my own blog, namely, Lawopedia. - Writing enables you to leave a lasting legacy. It builds credibility in your field or interest area. - Growing your audience is facilitated by consistently sharing written content. It's easier to connect with people by writing your thoughts.

As a retired public speaker, giving back to the community through writing a book or a blog is an excellent way to share knowledge and experiences. Firstly, identify your niche or expertise within public speaking, such as overcoming stage fright, mastering persuasive techniques, or storytelling in presentations. Then, outline your book or blog content, focusing on valuable insights, practical tips, and personal anecdotes to engage readers. For example, if you're writing about overcoming stage fright, share techniques that worked for you, memorable speaking experiences, and advice for aspiring speakers. By sharing your expertise through writing, you can inspire and empower others to become confident and effective communicators.

You can always write a book or a blog. But your expectations about the selling figures of your book should not be too high. Around 80000 books are published annually in Germany. Only a few of them reach the status of a bestseller. So writing a book is just for yourself. If it is done properly it takes a lot of time and energy. So you should be highly motivated to do it and being convinced of the benefit for others reading your book. And consider that writers usually thank in the foreword of a book their family members for being patient and understanding. A blog is a more easy way to share and distribute your thoughts. It needs a different writing style than book writing. And it should be published regularly which is a challenge.

A blog or a book is an amazing way to share what you know and have learned in a creative way. You can write down all the things you learned as a speaker , how you connected , how you grew your audience and how you and the confidence to use your voice. This will enable others to learn from your successes and your failures, giving them a short cut to their success. This being a so much value to people and to your soul, because nothing feels better then helping someone 💯

Une fois sorti du système onusien (retraite oblige) et après plus de 40 d'expérience dans la coopération internationale, les droits humains, l'engagement de la société civile avec et hors du système multilatéral, j'ai opté pour rester dans les milieux qui me sont le plus familiers. J'ai pensé qu'après tout, à vouloir être "utile", il fallait profiter de la-dite "loi d'expérience": faire profiter aux autres, non seulement mes domaines d'expertise, mais également et surtout à grande échelle l'importance du réseautage dans mes milieux de prédilection. J'ai donc rejoint, en tant qu'employé, une ONG de défense de droits humains auprès des principales institutions internationales. Je suis le "porte parole" publique de milliers de victimes.

Speak only on the topic you love and are passionate about out. When you speak from the heart, you turn hearts. Your listeners can tell the difference between truth and a facade so focus on cultivating a strong voice for the topics you are passionate about.

While I am semi-retired, I enjoy using my public speaking gifts to support non-profits. As a retiree, my schedule is more open. I recently spoke at a veterans event. Last year I spoke for a nonprofit that provides free service animals to veterans and first responders. It feels good to support small nonprofits and help them raise money to bless the community. Until I’m no longer breathing…

I think it’s time to write a book. You will have the opportunity to share your experience with many upcoming speakers and even inspire people to consider a career in public speaking.

I would pick my favorite charity of choice and serve as a voice for them. Its a way to give back and also keep doing what I love.

Volunteer to be an adjunct in your area of expertise at a local university. It gives a great opportunity to offer your knowledge to a rising generation looking for positive examples. Many students are eager to learn from people who have “been there and done that.” You won’t make a lot of money, but you will get a feeling of contributing something worthwhile.

Words have the power to move mountains. Retired public speakers possess a wealth of knowledge and experience that can greatly benefit their communities. Retired public speakers can give back through sharing invaluable insights and practical advice, inspiring others to overcome challenges and pursue excellence in public speaking. This act allows them to leave a lasting legacy of expertise, cultivating connections within their communities and providing personal fulfillment as they contribute to the growth and development of others.

One idea which I am currently considering doing is teaching kids in school how to do public speaking, especially those from public schools that would otherwise not have access to such training. Public speaking is a very crucial skill for anyone to learn and it would be great if you could give back to the world by sharing your gift to the future world leaders.

Start a program that helps women in tech speak at tech conferences! which is what I did. Contact me for details. But joked aside, giving bak is important. I would volunteer at hackathons, events, and wherever I can find, and host free workshops to help more people get to speak!

There is a great need for substitute teachers I devoted 4 years to substituting in Beaver and Indiana county. It’s rewarding for you and gives regular teachers a well deserved day off.
