Understanding these aspirations allows us to weave client demands with personal growth opportunities. By fostering a culture that values personal growth alongside client needs, we keep our team motivated. Challenges become stepping stones, not roadblocks. It is crucial to always start with "why" to keep yourself, and your team, focused on the project's True North. In addition, understanding the strengths of the team will help you move on to the next phase: the how. Every phase of any project needs to start with questions, no matter how easy it is to begin with solutions.

Break down the complex project into smaller, manageable milestones. Clearly define each step and celebrate the completion of these milestones with your team.

I agree with this guidance, and it is part of why we usually begin with developing or refining a Market Dominating Position. It's not always about the customer, but also your team. Try this exercise: 1. Ask each of your team members to anonymously provide 1-3 sentences about what your company does. Pretend they're at a mixer and someone asks. What do they say? You might be surprised at the answers you receive. 2. When you view the answers, note specific words or phrases that are "spot on" and those that are "way off." This can guide you to an action in order to ensure that your team is fully on the same page.

Our team has begun having weekly meetings where each member shares one thing they're proud of, and one thing someone else on the team should be proud of. It is pretty cool to witness the energy in the room shift with that simple meeting. It is an opportunity to not only take pride in what you do, but also to let someone else know you see them. And when someone sees that their value is appreciated, it inspires them to work even harder. I think each project can have a meeting like this implemented. When we work in a vacuum, sometimes it can be difficult to find your motivation. This is a way to always let someone else know "you see them."

As the CEO of my company, my favorite ideas are the great ones that come from someone else on the team. I take great pride in fostering an environment where everyone is excited to bring something new to the table. We try to take a deliberate approach where everyone is involved in brainstorms, no matter the department or title. Everyone on the team has different life and work experiences, and I am a firm believer that experiences breed creativity, not titles. I will always suggest to anyone who listens to have large and small group brainstorms whenever possible. I would also add that all of the above is true to work with your clients. When you find your clients are "demanding" try to understand what is behind that demand. Here are some ways to help negotiate with your clients: - Prioritize the deliverables. What is the most urgent? Is it possible to break up the delivery? - Strive for "Done" vs "Perfect." I know, I know, I know... Nobody wants to deliver less-than-perfect work. But at times, it is good to take the pressure off by delivering an "ok" deliverable. Ask your client, "can you live with it, or should we take more time to perfect it?" - Be transparent (to a point). While nobody wants to hear a sad story, involving your client in finding a solution can go a long way to help.

In my personal experience, clients get more demanding and pressurizing when they do not feel heard or when their expectations are somewhere not met or unaddressed. Therefore active listening is important. It does wonder to set expectations right from the beginning what the limitations are that are out of your / your team ‘s control. Else when the road block arises you find yourself in the situation to explain and that is often interpreted as unwillingness or inability to lead the situation.
